Cover Reveal of Kendall Ryan’s Junk Mail

JUNK MAIL

By Kendall Ryan

Release Day: April 23

About the Book

It all started with a sexy selfie.

Texted to the wrong number.

Oops.

Not my finest moment—but I have nothing to be ashamed of.

She thought I was no better, and I quote, than the knuckle-dragging douche-bags she was never dating again.

It was a stupid dare from a girl I’d met online, but since she’d given me a fake number, I didn’t feel bad that my interests were suddenly focused elsewhere—on the fiery and sharp-tongued, Peyton that I found myself sparring with over text for the rest of the evening.

The following day, my case of mistaken identity came back to bite me in the banana.

When I strolled into the office, I was introduced to Peyton as the new client I needed to win over. The Peyton , in case you’re not tracking.

And let’s just say she had my full attention.

Brains? Check.

Beauty? Oh yeah.

And the best part? She hated me on sight.

Dear God, do I love a challenge.

Let the games begin.

5++ Star Review: Saffron A. Kent’s Bad Boy Blues

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️++

“He’s running in my veins and beating in my chest.”

How do you know a book is a GREAT book? For me, there are several qualities that help me give a book a 5 +++ star review:

*Usually, I’ve read the author previously, and he/she has bowled me over with his/her books. This is DEFINITELY the case with Saffron A. Kent. Medicine Man was the first book I read by her, and she broke my heart with that beautiful story. That lead me to The Unrequited where she once again skewered my “ticker.” When she began posting about Bad Boy Blues, explaining that this was the most personal book to her, I KNEW I needed to get an ARC of it, so I could give it its proper due. And, once again, she does not disappoint with this book. Her books carry intentional messages related to societal topics. With this book, the big topic is bullying and the impact of learning disabilities on one’s sense of intelligence. She looks at it from various perspectives, and, as the reader, you feel the weight of these issues. I think this is the reason I love her books. I know when I read them I am reading more than romance; I’m reading about a relevant issue that surpasses the romance in the story. I love that depth of writing; hence, I love Kent’s books.

*The story makes me cry over and over again. I’m a sap. I love my heart strings pulled because it reminds me I’m human. If I read a book, and the story makes me cry in one chapter, then laugh, and then cry again in another chapter, I know the book has meaning. I am relating to the characters because I can empathize with their feelings.

Bad Boy Blues follows two characters: Cleopatra Paige (Cleo) and Zachariah Prince (Zach). Cleo is the girl from “the other side of the tracks” while Zach is the “prince” of the town in which they live. They are very different. They meet in school when Cleo is enrolled in the privileged private school where Zach attends. From almost her first day, Cleo is intrigued with Zach because she sees something kindred in him. Unfortunately, this seems off-putting to Zach, and he begins to bully her. Even more, he allows his friends to make her school experience miserable, and she lives the next several years of her life (after high school) in the shadows of that torment. Thankfully, for Cleo, Zach leaves school and town before graduation, and she gets a reprieve. She believes she will never see him again, but this proves wrong when he shows up a few years later. All of the torment and fear from her school days return, and she struggles every day as she worries he will torment her again. Through all of this, as the reader, you can feel her pain. When she encounters Zach over and over, you can’t help but want to protect her. Her pain becomes your pain. That is the power of Kent’s writing. Her characters are so relatable that you imagine yourself as them, and your heart breaks when their hearts break. And Bad Boy Blues embodies this.

*The characters of a book need to be redeemable. I love an “alpha-hole.” If you have read any of my previous reviews of other authors, then you know the redemption of the seemingly unredeemable male character is my favorite romantic trope. Zachariah Prince typifies this role, or seemingly so. With an alpha-hole, nothing is ever what it seems. This is true for Zach. Yes, he bullied Cleo in school. Yes, he continues to torment her on his return (even though this torture is much different than her youth). However, there is something that runs deeper in Zach’s past and his present that explains his nature. And this secret is the headiness of his character. It shows us his layers, and he becomes admirable and intriguing. His redemption through his relationship with Cleo is beautiful and the cornerstone of Bad Boy Blues. His growth along with Cleo’s awakening about Zach is constructed beauty in this story. It is what made me shed the most tears .

*The words of the story have to bear into my soul. If you read any of my other reviews of Kent’s works, then you know how much I love her style. Bad Boy Blues is no different. I have pages and pages of highlighted notes because her words are a melody of pain and love. The writing is fluid and helps you feel the essence of these characters as you read it. So much so, that you simply cannot stop reading her words because they feed a little something in you.

“I wished for someone who’d care for me. Someone who’d love me. Who would put up with me and all the destructive things that I just felt compelled to do. I wished for someone soft. Someone shiny and bright. But more than that, I wished for someone I could be better for. I wished for you…”

That is but a tidbit of the power of her words. There is more to this passage, and Saffron A. Kent’s words simply bite into your soul and leave an imprint.

Bad Boy Blues is a contemporary, enemies-to-lovers story that grinds at your heartstrings. It is layered with messages about bullying, learning disabilities, and overcoming pain while wrapped in a package of romance and $exual chemistry. Kent makes us question what it means to be soul mates. Is it the brutal hazing of bullying, or is it something more? What is bullying anyway when you feel a strong spiritual connection to another?

“I love you with all my soul. You’re the core of me. You’re in my fucking essence. And no one can take that away from me. Not even death.”

I absolutely could not put this book down because it felt necessary to read Zach and Cleo’s story. They are just like many of us, trying to move beyond the hurts of our pasts to find peace in our future. Thankfully for Cleo and Zach, their peace comes in a beautiful HEA, which should give us all hope for our own HEAs.

In love and romance,

They say revenge is a dish best served cold.

I’d had four years to stew on what Daria Followhill did to me, and now my heart is completely iced.

I took her first kiss.

She took the only thing I loved.

I was poor.

She was rich.

The good thing about circumstances? They can change. Fast.

Now, I’m her parents’ latest shiny project.

Her housemate. Her tormentor. The captain of the rival football team she hates so much.

Yeah, baby girl, say it—I’m your foster brother.

There’s a price to pay for ruining the only good thing in my life, and she’s about to shell out some serious tears.

Daria Followhill thinks she is THE queen. I’m about to prove to her that she’s nothing but a spoiled princess.

Everyone loves a good-old, unapologetic punk.

But being a bitch? Oh, you get slammed for every snarky comment, cynical eye roll, and foot you put in your adversaries’ way.

The thing about stiletto heels is that they make a hell of a dent when you walk all over the people who try to hurt you.

In Penn Scully’s case, I pierced his heart until he bled out, then left it in a trash can on a bright summer day.

Four years ago, he asked me to save all of my firsts for him.

Now he lives across the hall, and there’s nothing I want more than to be his last everything.

His parting words when he gave me his heart were that nothing in this world is free.

Now? Now he is making me pay.

Blog Tour: Check Out My 5-star Review of Brittainy C. Cherry’s new book, Eleanor & Grey

E&G - BT banner.jpg

Check out my blog review here.

Eleanor & Grey, an all-new beautiful and emotional standalone from Brittainy C. Cherry is available now!

Eleanor & Grey FOR WEB

Greyson East left his mark on me.

As the young girl who first fell for him, I didn’t know much about life. I did know about his smiles, though, and his laughs, and the strange way my stomach flipped when he was near.

Life was perfect…until it wasn’t, and when we were forced to go our separate ways, I held on to our memories, let go of my first crush, and wished for the day I’d find him again.

When my wish came true, it was nothing like I imagined.

I couldn’t have known when I took the nanny position that it would be his children I looked after, that my new boss would be that boy I used to know, that boy who was now a man—a cold, lonely, detached man.

The smile and laugh I had loved so much were gone, now distant memories. Every part of him was covered in a fresh pain.

When he realized who I was, he made me promise to do my job and my job only.

He made me promise not to try to get to know him, not to recall the memories I’d treasured all this time.

But, sometimes, I saw the boy I’d once known in his stormy eyes. I saw the Greyson who smiled and laughed, who had stolen a young girl’s heart, and there was no doubt in my mind that this boy was worth fighting for.

I was given a second chance with the one who’d left his mark on me. All I hoped was that somehow I’d leave a mark on his soul, too.

Excerpt:

Eleanor

Thirty-two years old

Greyson’s assistant, Allison, finished giving me a tour of the house. “Okay, I think that’s everything. I’m going to head out now, but go ahead and make yourself comfortable. Get used to the property. Mr. East knows you’re here today, so don’t feel like you aren’t allowed to wander around a bit. If you need anything, my cell number is on the contact list in the book, or you can email me. If nothing comes up, I hope your first day goes well. Claire will be with you Monday to make sure the transition goes smoothly.”

I must have looked terrified because as Allison grabbed her coat and purse to leave, she gave me a light squeeze on the shoulder.

“You’re going to be fine, Eleanor. Mind over matter. You got this. Let’s touch base later in the week so I can check in on how things are going.”

“Sounds great. Thanks, Allison.”

After she left, I took a deep breath and flipped through a few pages in the binder. Then, I did a once-through of the house, familiarizing myself with whose room was where. There was something so unsettling about the quietness of Greyson’s home. It was so dark with an odd gloomy feeling attached to it, haunting almost. I didn’t mean dark as in the lighting situation, rather it was the energy level. There was such a heaviness in the space.

The place felt like a house, not a home.

If I hadn’t known any better, I wouldn’t have believed a family lived there at all.

It felt so abandoned, almost like a memory frozen in time.

That might’ve just been my own thoughts, thought, due to knowing about the tragedy that had taken place in the lives of the individuals who lived there. With the number of books I’d read, it wasn’t inaccurate to say my mind wandered toward the dramatics.

I walked back into the kitchen, flipping through the binder, completely taken aback by the girls’ schedules. Between school, swim lessons, karate, piano lessons, physical therapy, and grief counseling, I wasn’t sure how they found the time to live a little.

“Eleanor.”

I leaped out of my skin at the sound of my name and turned to see Greyson standing behind me with an empty glass in his hand. He was dressed in a suit and tie, which was so strange to me.

Who wore a suit and tie in their own home?

I hardly wore pants when I was home alone.

“Oh, Greyson, hi. Sorry I’m still here. Allison was just giving me a tour, and she said it was okay to look around a bit more.”

“She made me aware.”

Wow. He had responded immediately, unlike the first time I saw him. I called that progress.

I smiled at him, but he didn’t smile back, and that felt like the oddest thing in the world. The old Greyson had been full of smiles.

“It’s a beautiful home,” I stated, unsure what else to talk about. “It’s massive. I swear, it’s like ten times the size of my place.” He blankly stared my way as I shifted from foot to foot. “I love the décor,” I blurted out, and I hated myself the second the words left my lips. Just walk away, Eleanor. Don’t be awkward. “Those throw pillows in your living room are to die for. Where did you get them?”

“The interior designer chose everything,” he replied dryly.

“Oh, right, of course. My interior designer is normally the clearance section at T.J. Maxx,” I joked. “Or on special occasions, Target.”

He didn’t laugh, probably because I wasn’t funny.

I wondered when was the last time he’d laughed.

Did he ever find anything funny anymore?

We kept staring at one another in the most uncomfortable silence, though I didn’t feel as if I could pull myself away from it. I probably stared at him too long, but how could I not? I’d gone fifteen-some years without looking at him. It was understandable that I wouldn’t be able to turn away quickly.

The awkwardness of it all finally came to a halt when Greyson cleared his throat.

“Eleanor?”

“Yes?”

“I came for water.”

“Oh?” I stared at him like an idiot, wide-eyed like a deer in headlights, waiting for his next words. I stood still as if he were going to expand on his interest in water. Was he offering me a drink? Were we going to sip water and catch up on things? Was I finally going to be able to ask him how he’d become the CEO of his father’s company at such a young age? What had happened to his father?

His stare narrowed, and his lips turned down in a displeased fashion. He nodded once.

“Hmm?” I asked.

He nodded more aggressively this time, gesturing past me.

I glanced behind me and realized I was standing right in front of the refrigerator, blocking the water dispenser. I stepped to the side, mentally beating myself up.

Idiot.

“Oh, right, of course. Well, I think I’m done here, so I’ll see myself out,” I stated, scrambling to grab my binder. “Have a good afternoon.”

He didn’t reply, but that wasn’t shocking. I was quickly learning that this new Greyson didn’t have nearly as much to say as the old one.

5 Star Review: Brittainy C. Cherry’s Eleanor & Grey

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When I received an email about an ARC opportunity for Brittainy C. Cherry’s Eleanor & Grey, the blurb instantly caught my eye:

“Greyson East left his mark on me.

Love and pain seem so synonymous, and I wanted to read about the boy and the girl who once loved each other and eventually lost each other only to be reunited again. To me, that sounded like the perfect angsty Sunday afternoon read.

And it absolutely lived up to it.

Eleanor & Grey is a romance. However, it is much more. It’s a story about friendship and loss and pain and healing. And it is about love. But it is also about people who are broken by tragedy. Alone, those broken parts cannot heal. Instead, friendship, sacrifice, and love mend those broken parts.

Brittainy C. Cherry has written an ode to healing through love with this book. I was right. It is angsty. Had I used tissues, I would have easily used a quarter of the box with this book. It hits you in the “feels” in a way that is magnificent (if you like that kind of thing…which I do).

This is what I love about this book:

  1. Yes, this is a beautiful love story between friends. Eleanor and Greyson are friends before they are lovers. Their friendship binds this book. There is a physical relationship between the two …eventually, but it isn’t their center. The core of their love story is their ability to love each other through their pain as friends first and lovers later.
  2. The supporting cast of this book is also the strength of this book. This story is not entirely about Eleanor and Greyson. It is also about Grey’s daughters, Karla and Lorelai, Ellie’s parents, Grey’s mother-in-law, Claire, Eleanor’s cousin, Shay, and Greyson’s best friend, Landon. Each of them play an important part in telling this story about loss and love, and their insertion into Ellie and Grey’s story creates more layers to their story. Without them, I don’t think I would have felt such a warmth for Ellie and Grey’s story. They were necessary in showing the gradations of grief.

Do I recommend this book? Absolutely! If you like a second-chance, angsty story about love and friendship, then Eleanor & Grey is a 5-star must read. I knew when I read that blurb, that I was going to fall in love with this couple. And Brittainy C. Cherry’s story definitely broke my heart a little, but mended it in the end just like she mended the hearts of Eleanor and Greyson.

In love and romance,

About the book

Dear Sexy AF Intern,
I know you don’t particularly care that I’m the CEO of this company, and you’re just an intern. I also know you’re not impressed by my power or my wealth, and that’s fine.
You think you’ve got me all figured out from working alongside me for two weeks, but you don’t know me. Not really.
You don’t know that I’m a single dad to twin toddlers, or that those two little girls matter more to me than this entire hotel chain.
I’m not interested in starting something deep and meaningful, but what I am interested in is the way your body reacts to mine when we’re in the same room. You probably assume the concentration on my face is work-related, when in reality, I’m figuring out which I want more–to nail you against the wall, or to bend you over my desk.
While you’re too disciplined to act on it, I’m not. And the night you stepped into my limo, all bets were off.
