She’s my best friend’s kid sister.

Only she’s not a kid any more.

Break the Rules, an laugh-out-loud standalone romance from Roxie Noir, is available now!

RN_BreaktheRules_Ebook.jpg

As a forest ranger, I believe in the simple life. I prefer cabins to apartments, trails to freeways, and trees to people. My life is orderly, predictable, and quiet.

Until it’s hit by a woman I never saw coming — Hurricane June.

She’s fierce. She’s feisty. She has a laugh like the first day of spring, and she’s so pretty that I can’t breathe when I look at her. June will only be in town for a few months—just while job-hunting. She won’t last until winter, but how can I resist?

Except I have to. She’s my best, oldest, and most loyal friend’s baby sister.

Betraying him would be the worst thing I’ve ever done. Not betraying him might be the hardest.

Especially once we start working together on a secret project. All this spending time together, sneaking around at night, and lying to her brother about what we’re doing sure feels like more than friendship.

June might break my heart. Her brother might break my nose.

But I guess some things were made to be broken.

Excerpt:

I scanned the crowd. Apparently, kink didn’t scare off the young, elite, and rich. The usual crowd I’d see at China White were all here trying too hard not to look desperately bored. Through the crowd, I spotted a flashbulb go off, and I stiffened.

Calm down, mate. Of course, the club had hired photographers for the event. But I eyed the shutterbug again. Slight build. Dirty blond hair gelled up into spikes. I could have sworn I’d seen him before. The hairs on the back of my neck stood at attention, but I couldn’t place the guy. I needed to calm down. The hiring staff would only hire reputable photographers. They knew that we required the utmost privacy, and they wouldn’t hire anyone who had ever worked with the tabloids. But still, I couldn’t shake the feeling I’d seen the guy before. Maybe he was one of Xander’s students?

“Speaking of complications…” I muttered. I couldn’t have missed Abbie’s entrance with her friends if I’d been trying.

Sophie squealed when she spotted me, and immediately a flock of women swarmed the models. One of the guys put his arm around Abbie, and I had the irrational urge to plant my fist in his face.

She’d texted earlier to say she was going out, but I had no idea she’d end up here.

As always, she looked stunning. She’d worn her braids piled on top of her head in some kind of bun, with long dangling earrings showing off her slender neck.

Gemma glanced toward the entrance. “Given the electric sparks between you two across a room, I see why the urgency.”

“Leave it, Gem.”

“Just saying. Give me a couple of weeks before you two get cited for public eye shagging.” She gathered up her purse. “I think I’ll go see what Nick’s up to.”

I didn’t even see which way she went because my attention was so focused on Abbie. And as if she felt my eyes on her, she immediately looked up.

When our gazes locked, need chased the elation through my veins. I’d only seen her yesterday, but any time I spent away from her felt like eons. But it wasn’t like I could really complain. She’d had work to do for my brother. I tried not to think about what Xander had said about her. It didn’t matter what Xander thought. I couldn’t stop seeing her.

She climbed the stairs, her soft skirt swishing against her legs as she did. When she reached the landing, she fixed me with a smile. “Fancy meeting you here.” She looked around surreptitiously. “In a sex club.”

“Oh, is it a sex club? I hadn’t noticed.” I grinned. “Nick’s idea.”

“Ahh, he didn’t really strike me as the whips-and-chains kind of guy.” She shrugged.

For several moments, we stood facing each other, neither moving, forcing anyone who wanted access to the stairs to go around us. Finally, I angled my body a little closer to her and said, “It’s one of his dad’s clubs. Do you want to go somewhere a little more private… to talk?”

Her eyes flashed. “Yeah.” She cleared her throat. “Talking seems like a really good idea, actually.”

I took her hand and led her through the throngs of the VIP section, past the dominatrix with her victim for the night, and past the sex viewing rooms. She held on tight to me as we passed by them.

“Are they having…”

“Yeah.” As much as I wanted to be with her, I hated having her here in the midst of all the kink that was going on. “Maybe we should leave the club?”

“I—No. It’s okay. We came as a group for Jasper’s gig tonight. Apparently, there’s some big promoter here. Jasper’s hoping to get some representation tonight. We’re sort of supporting him. Everyone would notice if I left.”

“Right.” Jasper. Jasper might be my friend, but jealousy ate at me. I wanted her there to support me. Of course, I’d have to tell her something real about myself first. I found the private rooms, then after looking around to make sure no one paid us any attention, I dragged her inside. Dim red light illuminated the comfortable-looking couch and bed. Her eyes widened as she glanced around. “This is… cozy.”

I kissed her softly, and for a moment, all the tension ebbed out of my body. “I just wanted to be alone with you for two minutes before things get crazy out there and we don’t have a minute to talk all night.”

“No. It’s fine.” She placed a hand on my chest, and my heart hammered. “I’d rather get a minute with you, even if it’s in a sex room. I wanted to talk to you about something.”

We’d spent a lot of time together over the last week, but we hadn’t been alone. Always out in public. Even the photo lab had been occupied when I’d gone to help her. The one night we’d made a date for her to go to my place, she’d had to do some schoolwork for Xander and rescheduled. The prick of guilt stung as I thought of how badly her last critique had gone.

“Okay, talk.” I kissed the crook of her neck and inhaled. Her perfume, mixed with her unique scent, drove me a little crazy and made my head swim.

“Alexi, I can’t—” She moaned when I licked her. “I can’t think when you’re doing that.”

“Okay, sorry.” I drew back. “Sometimes I forget to slow down.”

She blinked up at me and inhaled deeply. “Sometimes I don’t want you to.”

I stilled. What? “I don’t understand.”

“Have you noticed that even after we said we’d ease up on intensity we’ve been spending every minute we can together?”

Something ominous and slimy squirmed in my gut. “I thought that was a good thing.”

“It is. Maybe we don’t need to take it quite so slow anymore.”

Relief washed over me like a wave. As did panic. I was totally fucked. I was completely in love with her. And there were things she still didn’t know about me.

About Nana:

USA Today bestseller, Nana Malone’s love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense she “borrowed” from her cousin.

It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She’s been in love with kick butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.

While she waits for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, in the meantime Nana works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as sassy and kick butt as she thinks she is.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 5 ⭐️ Review: Rebecca Jenshak’s The Fake ✍🏻

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It began with curmudgeonly, yet compassionate Wes. Then, we were given playboy, yet kind Joel. After Joel, there was Zeke, the silent, but soulful type. And now, Rebecca Jenshak has crafted the piece de resistance of her Smart Jocks series with Nathan Paynter. Seemingly aloof and hiding secrets, what we find in this new hero is the essence of the romantic hero: a romantic heart.

I would love to say that I, Professor A, would choose any of these heroes over the other, but I can’t. I believe in my earlier reviews of the first three books of this series, The Assist, The Tip-Off, and The Fadeaway, that I fell more and more in love with her characters. Yet, the reality is I love them all. Each of the couples offers these romantic stories of struggle, perseverance, and love. It would be easy to put them within the confines of a specific romantic trope, but that isn’t what Jenshak is doing with this series. She’s simply telling a story about a basketball jock and his lady-love. And this reviewer has loved EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. OF. THEM. I cannot say this for every standalone series I’ve read. There is usually a weak link. After reading Jenshak’s newest tome, The Fake, I can’t find one. There is not a weak one in the bunch.

There are many reasons that you should read this book. Firstly, know that you do not need to have read the first three books of the series to understand this book. It’s truly a standalone, complete with a heroine we haven’t met before this book. That being said, if you’ve read the first three books, it makes the book more special. Nathan has been an interesting character since we first met him in The Assist. We’ve known that he was hiding secrets. Boys being boys, nobody (none of Nathan’s team members/roommates) felt compelled to interrogate his nightmares or his curious source of money. As a reader, we knew there were issues, so this book has been, by my estimation, one of the most anticipated. What the first three books add to The Fake is they make the story more fragrant because you will know the ancillary characters of the story. Yet, we really know very little of Nathan and Chloe, the hero and heroine, until this book.

So WHY should you read this The Fake? Here goes:

  • Nathan Paynter. This man, even with his foibles, is a romantic. He’s a letter-writing, sweet-talking, unassuming romantic. He has secrets, and they threaten to derail his story (I’m not telling his secrets; you need to read this story for them), but his ability to fix his mess also paints him well in this story. He’s a hero unlike Jenshak’s other heroes, and there is something lovely about that.
  • Chloe. Chloe represents some of the students whose parents have recently been indicted in fraud for college admissions. Her parents don’t defraud her former college. Instead, they buy her way in, and this leaves her unsure of her abilities. She’s a volleyball player, a student-athlete like Nathan. One of my favorite moments of the book is a “date” when they work out. She is Nathan’s perfect match, yet she fights it for the first third or half of the book. As it begins to frustrate the reader, Jenshak is brilliant to release us from that pain. She succinctly builds the tension of Nathan acting as her “fake boyfriend” to win over friends with their growing “like” for each other until you don’t think you can take it anymore. Then, Jenshak releases it and decides to build a struggle elsewhere. Through the character of Chloe, Jenshak reminds us that we should always live our truth. People-pleasing will always let us down.
  • The moments of the story. I am not going to name them here, but there are so many incredible moments in this story between Chloe and Nathan. There is a sweet moment towards the end of the story where, if I was a swooner, I would have fainted. It’s sweet and charming and everything you love in a contemporary romance. Jenshak bombards us again and again with the chemistry of these two, along with Nathan’s natural romantic heart. I ate up every page of this book.

Like Rebecca Jenshak, I love sports. I don’t love every single moment of a game, match, etc. But I love the athleticism and mental challenge of sports. Jenshak has crafted these stories of college basketball players that pull at your heartstrings and engage in ideas about jocks. She’s illustrated in each of her books that these men are smarter than we consider them. They aren’t just book smart; these are men whose emotional struggles build to an emotional maturation that allows them to love their heroines deeply. Honestly, I think Nathan and Chloe’s story is the cherry on the sundae for this series. Ultimately, Jenshak’s newest book, The Fake, suggests that living your own truth and being honest with the person you love is all that matters in life.

In love and romance,

Professor A

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4 ⭐️ Review: Liv Morris’s Daddy Issues ✍🏻

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There are some romantic tropes that act like candy; they sweeten our romantic soul. For me, sub-tropes such as rich billionaire and his nanny romance feed my “sweet tooth” for titillating stories. Usually, with this trope, the billionaire knocks up his nanny, and there’s an issue with propriety and ethics. Liv Morris’s Daddy Issues isn’t THAT type of billionaire/nanny story. Instead, this is a story about a broken man forgoing the richness of happiness in his world because he made a horrific mistake in his youth. A baby from an arranged, but temporary $exual relationship and a beautiful, strong nanny help save him from himself.

Lucas is a man with a controlled life. He controls his work, he controls his bedroom liaisons, and he controls his relationships with his family. He believes that this control protects him from the reward of happiness and love. In his youth, Lucas makes a huge mistake, and it costs him dearly. As such, he believes he is warranted little in terms of personal happiness.

Magnolia “Maggie” enters his life one day in a coffee shop. He saves her from falling, and they feel instant chemistry. However, given Lucas’s control, he lets her leave without the promise of any future connection. Two weeks later, he finds he is a father from one of his temporary, controlled connections. Adrift, his friend finds him a nanny, only to realize it’s Maggie. As Maggie infiltrates his controlled world, his interest in her grows, and it challenges his previous control. Will Maggie help him drop his entrenched walls of protection? Or is Lucas destined to live a lonely, unfulfilled life?

There is quite a bit that I enjoyed about this story. I am always a fan of a controlled, seemingly mean-spirited billionaire being brought to his knees by a strong, willful heroine who is emotionally more mature than him. And that’s the case here in Morris’s Daddy Issues. Of the two, Maggie is more insightful and self-reflective. When Lucas’s sister insinuates that he stopped growing emotionally after the incident that changed his family, she isn’t lying. This means that someone must aid Lucas on his journey of self-discovery. Morris has crafted Maggie is such a way that her influence on his life makes sense. I will say that her constant reminding of her bachelor’s in psychology was a bit too obvious for the storytelling; however, beyond that, Maggie is likable in a way that she endears herself to Morris’s audience, and her influence on Lucas feels believable.

Additionally, I appreciated that little Esme, Lucas’s daughter, is precious. Sometimes, authors love to create tyrant children who put the nanny through horrors. This isn’t the case with Morris’s story. Esme plays as big a part as Maggie in pushing Lucas through his emotional maturation. She’s sweet in a way that touches her father’s heart, allowing him to grow into happiness and love, both of which he had previously spurned.

What I tended to struggle with for this book is the “bipolar-esque” nature of Lucas. For most of the story, he fights his connection to Maggie, but it’s done in a way that feels inconsistent. I didn’t believe him. I also struggled with his interest in writing as a career because Morris didn’t show us, fully, his attachment to it. It’s mentioned twice, but it doesn’t seem organic to Lucas’s character. Since Lucas spends much of the story pushing Maggie away and then getting close to her, it confused me at times. When he finally makes his choice, I was still confused. They have a moment in a dance club in a private room where he lays out his decision, and I found myself re-reading the passage because their agreement bewildered me.

Even more, I wanted to feel a greater emotional attachment between Lucas and Maggie. Some times, it felt like there connection was purely physical, but then, Maggie would say she “loved” him. Their physical interest is clear, but the emotional and mental attachments seem invisible, at least until the end. In my opinion, the last quarter of the book is the most consistent, and it’s the best part. However, to realize that, you must read the first part to understand its strength.

I love a billionaire/nanny story. It’s enough to create my romantic diabetes. Liv Morris’s Daddy Issues has some of the qualities you love in that trope. More importantly, though, this story holds the message of loving yourself, even those parts of you that are broken. Lucas’s journey shows us the need to let go of mistakes and allow love to fill in all of your cracks.

In love and romance,

Professor A

A Standalone Contemporary Romance

#1 New York Times Bestselling Author Vi Keeland

BLURB

Terminated for inappropriate behavior.

I couldn’t believe the letter in my hands.

Nine years. Nine damn years I’d worked my butt off for one of the largest companies in America, and I was fired with a form letter when I returned home from a week in Aruba.

All because of a video taken when I was on vacation with my friends—a private video made on my private time. Or so I thought…

Pissed off, I cracked open a bottle of wine and wrote my own letter to the gazillionaire CEO telling him what I thought of his company and its practices.

I didn’t think he’d actually respond.

I certainly never thought I’d suddenly become pen pals with the rich jerk.

Eventually, he realized I’d been wronged and made sure I got my job back.

Only…it wasn’t the only thing Grant Lexington wanted to do for me.

But there was no way I was getting involved with my boss’s boss’s boss. Even if he was ridiculously gorgeous, confident, and charming.

It would be completely wrong, inappropriate even.

Sort of like the video that got me into trouble to begin with.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

But sometimes it’s twice as fun.

REBEL_KING_FINAL

Ambition. Revenge. Love.

RITA® Award-winning author Kennedy Ryan delivers the gripping conclusion to the All the King’s Men Duet.

Raised to resist. Bred to fight. Survival is in my blood and surrender is never an option.

Though surrender is what Maxim Cade demanded of my body and heart, I had other plans. We were fast-burning fascination and combustible chemistry, but the man I trusted with everything was a trickster. A thief who stole my love. If what we had was a lie, why did it feel so real? The man I swore to hate will have it all, and wants me at his side. But power is a game, and we’re the pawns and players.

Facing insurmountable odds, will we win the world, or will we lose it all?

Excerpt

Her words break on a sob, and the elegant line of her shoulders trembles. “No one like you.”

I palm her breasts, squeezing the tight nipples between my fingers. Her indrawn breath tells me she likes it.

“Anything you want,” she pants, circling her ass on me. “Take it.”

“I want today with you,” I say, changing the angle of my thrust slightly, but hitting a new spot that makes her moan.

“I can’t.”

I force myself to stop abruptly and start easing out.

“No!” She reaches back and grabs my ass. “Don’t you dare.”

I stop pulling out, but don’t move. She squirms, tries to grind on my cock, but I grip her hips, holding her still.

“Son of a bitch,” she growls. “Finish me, Doc.”

“No.”

“Do you think I don’t feel how hard that cock is? You want this, too.”

“Obviously,” I force my voice to casual, like it doesn’t matter to me one way or the other. “But I want a day with you more. What’s it going to be?”

I push in and give her a quick, shallow thrust.

“Oh, yes.” She starts circling her hips, and I stop again. “Bastard!” “I’ve told you my terms.”

My cock hates me, silently cursing me in four different languages for not finishing this right now.

“One day,” she concedes breathlessly. “I can give you one day.”

I take off the reins and fuck her until we’re both shaking. We almost fall when our orgasms hit. I ease out, sit on the shower bench and set her on my lap. Greedy, thirsty, we kiss until my lips are numb, her fingers burrowing into my wet hair, my fingers tunneled into hers. I break the kiss, taking her face between my slick hands and searching her eyes.

“One day,” I remind her, panting.

She nods, sucking my bottom lip smiling. “One day.”

LMDaddyIssuesBookCover6x9_MEDIUM-new.jpg

A single billionaire, a young nanny, and a surprise baby.

My life was ordered. Smooth and neat like my scotch. I had arranged relationships with a beginning and an end. No romantic attachments was my motto.

Then I met Maggie. A beautiful, young woman trying to find her place in the gritty world of Manhattan. She deserved more than a jaded man like me, so I let her walk away.

But fate stepped in and an ex-lover surprised me with a baby she claimed was mine. Desperate I hired a well-recommended nanny sight unseen. When she knocked at the door of my penthouse, I opened it to find Maggie standing on the other side.

I watched Maggie lovingly care for my child and wanted to learn to be a father to my daughter. But having Maggie so close was dangerous. She was a terrifying ray of sunshine that threatened to thaw my frozen heart.

I needed her for my child.

At least that’s what I told myself.

Until it was too late.

✍🏻 Need an early Christmas present? Check out Layla Hagen’s Your Christmas Love. This will take you back to the Bennett family. Available Now! ✍🏻

Sienna Hensley loves everything about the Christmas season, from hanging decorations to the cozy get-togethers with her family.  Despite being part of the well-known Bennett family, Sienna is determined to first gather experience before joining their business. Her job at Statham department store is perfect for that. But her new boss, Winston Statham, is going to be a slight problem.
Winston is broody, domineering, and sexy as all get out. But mooning over the boss is out of the question, especially since she just went through a break-up.

For Winston Statham, Christmas is just a reminder of the deadline looming ahead this year. Saving the store his parents build is his top priority. At least until he finds his branding manager singing and dancing to carols while hanging twinkling lights in his favorite meeting room.

He can’t get the sexy sway of her hips out of his mind…or her determination to make him smile. Sienna is smart, hard-working, and her unrestrained honesty makes him instantly trust her with a secret project.

But when he asks her to stay overtime, work isn’t the only thing on his mind. Before long, he’s willing to do anything for one more kiss, one more night together. Winston falls so hard for Sienna, that he can’t imagine ever letting her go.

But with his future up in the air, can he promise her anything more than an unforgettable Christmas season?
