One chance meeting on a Texas ranch.

One wild, too-charming cowboy.

One snowed-in night that changes everything.

Wheeler Rankin isn’t here for romance—she’s come to Lucky River Ranch to visit her best friend, wrangle a business deal, and prove herself to everyone who ever doubted her. But when she collides with Duke Rivers—resident heartbreaker, restless cowboy, and brother to her best friend’s new flame—sparks fly hotter than a Texas summer.

Duke has always dreamed of more than dusty trails and small-town life. He’s itching to see the world, but one unforgettable night with Wheeler changes his course. When a blizzard and a business road trip leave them stranded together, their no-strings flirtation ignites into something deeper.

But passion brings complications—and unexpected news threatens to upend everything Wheeler’s built. As family pressures, old wounds, and new dreams collide, Duke is determined to stand by her side, ready to forge a future neither of them ever imagined.

Can two fiercely independent souls trust in love, face their fears, and find home in each other’s arms? Or will the ghosts of the past keep them apart for good?

Tia Louise has revealed the covers for The Way We Collide!

Releasing April 10, 2025

Football is my life. I’m not interested in marriage or babies or poopy diapers. Yet here I am, standing in front of a judge saying “I do,” with a six-month-old on my hip and an aspiring storm-chaser on my arm.

From the time I was a little boy, sleeping with my head on a football, I’ve had one goal: carrying on the Bradford-family legacy.

Our famous father trained all my older brothers and me to be star athletes just like him, but seven years later, I’m the only one still focused on the game.

Until Raven Gale storms into my life.

She’s smart, sassy, curves for days, and lightning in the sack. When I met her at my little sister’s wedding we bonded immediately over our dedication to our dreams, our determination to let nothing stop us, and our insatiable, all-night, barrier-busting chemistry.

A baby girl is a surprise neither of us expected, but Raven has a plan. We’ll have a quickie marriage to secure her trust fund, be together three months tops, then shake hands and walk away.

The only problem is with every late night I spend chatting with my wife or consummating our marriage (which we agreed was a bad idea) or rocking my baby girl to sleep or yes, even changing poopy diapers, the stronger our bond grows.

It never rains in California, there’s no football (for me) in south Alabama, but when you collide with a cyclone, everything changes, including what you thought were your plans.

(THE WAY WE COLLIDE is a small-town, surprise baby, sports romance with a marriage of convenience, close proximity, an over-protective alpha daddy, a feisty plus-sized FMC, and a few twisters. No cheating. No cliffhanger. No third-act breakup.)

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s Reviews: J. Saman’s Undeniably Married, book 4 of her Boston’s Irresistibly Billionaires series ✍🏻

Overall Grade: B+

Tropes: friends to lovers; runaway bride; unrequited love; he falls first; Vegas wedding; fake relationship; surprise baby; age gap

J. Saman’s Undeniably Married illustrates an upgrade for her next-gen couples. The couple of this fourth story in her Boston’s Irresistibly Billionaires series, Sorel and Mason, are downright feral in their physicality. Saman has “next-leveled” this next-gen. She’s forgone a more profound development of story and characterization — like she had with her earlier stories — for a smuttier romance. I don’t dislike that; it’s an observation of her evolution as an author.

What did I love about this story?

  1. I’m an absolute sucker for a man who adores a woman from afar and falls deep. Mason Reyes pines for Sorel, a woman who is seven years his senior. He has reconciled a friendship with her, but, given the chance, he goes hard for her. Saman utilizes this reality by forgoing the third-act breakup. Because Mason adores Sorel and fights hard for her love, Saman gifts her reader with plot tension through other ways, ways that are easier on your heart.
  2. While Mason’s love for Sorel is my favorite part of Undeniably Married, the plot twists are the book’s driving forces. In looking at the trope list for this book, you’d assume a lot, but Saman has crafted a story rife with complications that her characters must delicately work through.
  3. The extended cast continues to excite Saman’s readers because she has many characters to work with for later stories. Honestly, this series could encompass SEVERAL books. I love how the characters from several of her series are entwined in this series. It feels as though you’re gifted Easter eggs of a sort throughout it.

Besides the imbalance of smut to story for Saman, one other aspect of this book and the other books in this series is how much the older generation has taken a back seat. They are mentioned, and we encounter the parents, but nothing is usually deeper than a quick scene. We see this in this book when Mason seeks out the advice of his parents, but it’s brief, and they play little part in the rest of the story. Even the lack of Sorel’s parents in the face of a broken engagement is a lacking plot point.

Mason and Sorel’s Undeniably Married holds a balance between teeth-achingly sweet and romance spice. I absolutely love this series, and I cannot wait for more stories from this crew of next-gen J. Saman characters.

✍🏻 Who’s ready to go back to Haven River Ranch? Devney Perry’s Sunlight is HERE…Jax Haven is DREAMY! ✍🏻

Sunlight by Devney Perry is now live!

From USA Today bestselling author Devney Perry comes a sweeping Western romance about undeniable attraction, unforeseen circumstances, and seemingly unbeatable odds.

My first day in Montana, I got into a tug-of-war over a grocery store shopping cart. The most handsome man I’d ever seen broke up the scuffle before he asked me on a date. I was seconds away from accepting but then he told me his name.

As an owner of the Haven River Ranch, Jax Haven wasn’t my boss. But he wasn’t not my boss either.

Obviously, my only option was to turn him down, scurry away, then pretend like he was a stranger on my first day of work. And obviously, I could never, ever admit that he was my secret crush.

For as hard as I work at my job, I work twice as hard to pretend Jax doesn’t exist. I don’t let myself think about his dazzling eyes or charming smile. I refuse to acknowledge how good he looks in a pair of faded Wrangler jeans. And as tempting as he is in a cowboy hat, Jax is a distraction I cannot afford.

Everything was going according to plan until the annual holiday party. Until I drank one too many flutes of champagne and let him sweep me off my feet. After a night in his bed, there was no more ignoring Jax Haven. Not when I’m pregnant with his baby.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s Reviews: Karla Sorensen’s Forever Starts Tonight, book 4 of her Wilder Family series ✍🏻

Overall Grade: A

Tropes: best friend’s sister; workplace romance; surprise baby; small town romance; one night to get over it; age gap

It’s a travesty if you haven’t read Karla Sorensen yet. It’s something that should be rectified as soon as possible. I’d love to tell you to drop everything and grab her most recent book, Forever Starts Tonight, but that’s a terrible place to begin. Instead, jump into the Wilder clan with The Plan and move into her Wilder series, landing on this most recent story. I will tell you right now that you will NOT put this series down once you begin. Sorensen has written a set of books that pick off parts of your soul little by little, replacing it with their decadent stories. After finishing Forever Starts Tonight, there are two main reasons why people should read Karla Sorensen.

  1. Her story pacing is impeccable—that’s a capital “I” impeccable. The two books before Forever Starts Tonight, Head Over Heels and Promise Me This, were two of the slowest burns I’ve read from her (especially Promise Me This—Ian made Sorensen’s readers work for their patience). As I read those former books, the pacing was precisely what was required to develop Sorensen’s character arcs. Setting up the issues of their pasts and helping them move past it even though their attraction and chemistry could potentially derail that work is where Sorensen’s superpower exists. This is also the case with Forever Starts Tonight. While this isn’t a slow burn like the previous books in the series, there is character work to be done, causing Jax and Poppy to work hard at finding their HEA. Every moment of this story is carefully drawn and quartered. The intentionality behind Sorensen’s progression is the heartbeat of Forever Starts Tonight, which compels her readers through the story. If you think this is indicative of this newest book, it is not. It is a cornerstone of Sorensen’s storytelling and why she has a rabid reader fanbase.
  2. Besides her story pacing, her ability to craft compelling characters is another strength. Sorensen writes emotionally messy characters, but not in a way that levels heaps of angst on her readers. Instead, she reminds us about the humanity of her characters and shows us a pathway through our challenges. In Forever Starts Tonight, I connected with Jax, her MMC, a man of few words but big hidden emotions. Jax has a long journey ahead of him from her Prologue. The difficult situation of his upbringing shades his present, and it takes the joy and intuitive nature of Poppy to unwind complex feelings. Sorensen makes her characters do the hard work of unraveling feelings and putting voice to them. She writes them in a way that makes them real and palpable for her readers. When Jax finally gets to a moment when he can accept himself for Poppy, their character development transitions away from uptight tension to a nuanced, impassioned love affair.  Through Sorensen’s writing, we become emotionally invested because we see ourselves in her characters’ struggles, which helps us recognize and/or resolve our own emotional issues.

I introduced my elderly mom to Karla Sorensen over a year ago, and she has become one of her favorites. She recently devoured the Wilder Family series (the first two books), and she looked at me and said, “how does she write such amazing stories with such loveable characters?” I could only smile and say because I imagine Karla Sorensen knows life and people, and she makes us fall in love with both when she writes stories such as Forever Starts Tonight

Now, excuse me while I run to Amazon to purchase this story for my mom…she has some reading to do…just like you.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s Reviews: Devney Perry’s Rally ✍🏻

Overall Grade: A-/B+

Tropes: one-night stand to more; opposites attract; surprise baby; new adult romance; sports romance; cinnamon roll MMC; down on her luck FMC

Rally, Devney Perry’s third book in her Treasure State Wildcats series, gifts us with the story of Faye and Rush. If you have read the first book of this series, Coach (my favorite of the series to date), you’re familiar with the broad strokes of their story. However, Rally takes us deeper into its beginning, middle, and beautifully written ending. Seriously, Perry’s endings and bonus epilogues are some of my favorites in romancelandia, and Rally exemplifies this gift well.

Faye and Rush’s story is one of complication. Perry has beautifully penned the trials of Faye becoming pregnant while struggling through life. Thankfully, Perry partners Faye with Rush whose background is less uncomplicated and filled with love so he can learn to love her through her struggles. Rally is a roller coaster ride of emotions as Faye learns to depend on Rush, even though she struggles to become vulnerable and willing to rely on someone. Thankfully, Perry crafts Rush to be uncomplicated and stalwart through Faye’s journey. This adds a sweetness to Rally that feels quintessentially Devney Perry.

My only issues are the oft-used “we’ll rally” or “need to rally” as it feels a bit “on the nose” in this story. I know it’s the battle cry of their relationship, but it seemed too pedantic for Perry. Secondly, there are moments when Rush’s actions are inconsistent with the overarching sense of his character as a noble, compassionate fellow. He sometimes retreats from Faye when, as the quarterback of a successful college team, that seems contrary to who he is. Beyond these issues, I loved Faye and Rush’s story.

Devney Perry’s Rally and its predecessors continue her tradition fo writing palatable, engaging romance. I love her stories, and given Rally and her story, Crossroads, published earlier in the year, I won’t stop reading her stories anytime soon.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s Review: Pippa Grant’s The Bride’s Runaway Billionaire, a Three BFFs and A Wedding Romance ✍🏻

Overall Grade: A

Tropes/Characteristics: runaway bride FMC; movie star MMC; close proximity; surprise baby; second chance; small town; found family; opposites attract

Throughout reading Pippa Grant’s The Bride’s Runaway Billionaire, I kept asking myself what is it about her romances that tug at me. At face value, Pippa Grant writes quirky rom-coms. The group of writers I put her in is Penny Reid and Lucy Score. They have a distinct writing voice and presence in their stories. Oftentimes, the face of the story is laden with quirky characters and inconceivable plot points. However, by the end of the romance, it’s clear this is a facade. Beneath cute animals such Yolko Ohno, the one-legged chicken, in Grant’s newest offering and the over-the-top antics of the supporting cast of characters abides a deep, loving relationship between her MMC and FMC. There is always something deep below the surface of Pippa Grant’s romances, and the marriage of the light facade with the depth of character rendering is why I always come back for more.

Throughout Grant’s most recent series, Three BFFs and a Wedding, she’s crafted a small-town world where everyone knows everything and everyone else, and it feels tempestuous at times. In the first two books of the series, she has a big problem: how to handle the upended wedding between Emma and Chandler. Book 2, The Gossip and the Grump, is where she holds us in suspense about Emma’s situation, and she wallops us at the end of that book with a surprise. Crafting this series in this way sets up The Bride’s Runaway Billionaire to be the most anticipated story of the series, which has the potential to cause a problem: what happens if Book 3 doesn’t live up to the hype? Well, you need not fear because, for this reader, The Bride’s Runaway Billionaire is my favorite of the three. Grant definitely saved the best for last, and she fulfilled the promise of creating a series that ends with the cherry on top of the sundae. Why did I love it so much?

  1. Emma makes her MMC work for it. I love that. I’m not a fan of second-chance romances where the hurt FMC lets go of her pain too easily. It undermines the tension of the reconciliation, and Grant superbly takes her reader through the paces of the MMC’s groveling.
  2. What this does is make us fall deeply in love with her MMC. Here’s the thing: I am attempting to write this review without naming him. I know others will do it in their reviews; however, I won’t. Grab the book and find out for yourself. Just know that the inclusion of this MMC into this book is pure genius. It connects the Pippa Grant universe (which I’m a particular fan of doing – it shows me that an author has a distinct and intelligent plan for her stories, even if she figured it out at the last minute. Plus it allows us re-entry into a book world that we previously loved). Secondly, Grant has written this MMC to be everything we need him to be for Emma’s journey. He takes responsibility, he recognizes his shortcomings, there is no gas-lighting, and he accepts his reckoning, all while falling deeply, madly in love with a character who has suffered previously. This is the type of heroic characterization that makes a reader swoon.
  3. The family of friends in this series is pure joy. The needling, the love, the respect – everything with this cast of friends adds another layer to The Bride’s Runaway Billionaire. The reflections and the reconciliations make for a feel-good read.

Almost a week out from reading Pippa Grant’s newest book, and it still swims in my mind. Emma and her MMC were a delight to read, and I’m so thankful that Pippa Grant knows who she is as a writer because her books bring so much light into a world that oftentimes feels dark. The Bride’s Runaway Billionaire is simply a must-read.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s Review: Jessica Peterson’s I Wish You Were Mine, book 2 of the Harbour Village series ✍🏻

Overall Grade: A- / B+

Tropes: single dad MMC; small town; grump-sunshine; nanny FMC; surprise baby; age gap; insta-attraction; close proximity

Jessica Peterson’s I Wish You Were Mine is the type of romance you expect from a socially-conscious, writer such as herself. Tuck and Maren’s story is a tangled mess of forbidden feelings, combustible chemistry, and charm. This is a complicated bind that leaves you with whiplash as Tuck and Maren find their way through a messy love.

I enjoyed the first book of Peterson’s newest series, I Wish I Knew Then, but nothing prepared me for how much I would love Maren and Tuck’s romance. And Peterson doesn’t make it easy on her readers’ emotions. She has incorporated the theme of fear into Maren and Tuck’s characterizations. Their fears are different, but the idea of fear, to a certain degree, binds them, allows them to cling to each other. Peterson beautifully shines the differences in approaches to handling their fears: one who resolves it through the buoy of love and the other who momentarily destroys because they don’t lean into love.

Throughout the story, Peterson intertwines Katie as an amelioration of the tension and chemistry between Maren and Tuck, and she provides the reality. Even more, Katie’s characterization provides humor when the book feels heavy. Add to all of that a supporting cast of characters in Tuck’s family and friends as well as Maren’s parents to add both the flame to the tension but also the wizened guides necessary to helping Tuck overcome the shadows of his past.

Jessica Peterson deftly and carefully ties together a romance that tugs at your heart in I Wish You Were Mine. One of the things I love about Peterson’s romance voice is her willingness to dive deep into difficult situations, showing us all sides of an issue through her characterizations and plotlines. Of the two books in her Harbour Village series, I Wish You Were Mine is my favorite thus far.

In love and romance,

Pippa Grant wanted to write books, so she did. Before she became a USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling romantic comedy author, she was a young military spouse who got into writing as self-therapy. That happened around the time she discovered reading romance novels, and the two eventually merged into a career. Today, she has more than 30 knee-slapping Pippa Grant titles and nine written as Jamie Farrell. When she’s not writing romantic comedies, she’s fumbling through being a mom, wife, and mountain woman, and sometimes trying to find hobbies. Her crowning achievement? ✍🏻 Professor Romance’s Review: Kristen Ashley’s Sharing the Miracle ✍🏻

Overall Grade: A+

Tropes: surprise baby; novella; found family

As a novella form goes, Kristen Ashley’s surprise release, Sharing the Miracle, is a treasure. I adore Kristen Ashley as an author in how she mixes the unreality of life through the ways she expounds on designer clothing and extravagant living with the reality of life: messy relationships and situations. In this newest story, she returns us to Hale and Elsa, one of the most profound stories in her beloved River Rain series. In this book, Hale and Elsa receive surprise news: a baby. What Kristen Ashley does with the short space of this novella is inspired. She illustrates the profundity of female relationships in discussing and processing female issues, the largesse of a found family for a character who is seemingly alone but not really, and the reality of the emotional daring required of parents. But it was Sharing the Miracle that truly showed me the underlying and decided detail of the River Rain series: Kristen Ashley’s knowledge and capacity for drawing the unevenness of grief. Kristen Ashley’s talent in storytelling is marrying fiction with the realism of life. I realized as I teared up over Hale’s experiences with grief that she captures so beautifully the complications we encounter as we continue to live after the loss of someone we love. It’s the ups and downs of that grief that make it palpable and ever-present. I reflected on the stories thus far in the River Rain series as I was reading Sharing the Miracle, and I recognized this to be true of every character of the series thus far. Life must be lived with or without Corey, and his absence as life goes on lays heavy on the various characters of this series. That Kristen Ashley can capture that reality without heavy-handedness but with a quietude through the development of her narrative is exquisite and impressive and another important reason to dive into her stories.

Can Sharing the Miracle be read alone? Sure, but you’d be missing the gradient of color that is the prism of the River Rain series. If you have yet to jump into this world, don’t wait. Hale and Elsa’s story in Fighting the Pull will always be my favorite story of this series, and this inspired novella is the frosting on the delectable cake of their romance.

In love and romance,

Professor A
