I drop my phone into my pocket and grab my suitcase’s handle to turn around.

“Hey, watch—” I hear him too late and crash into the man trying to warn me with a thud that knocks the wind out of me and pushes me back onto my heels. I windmill my arms to try and correct my balance but cry out as it proves in vain and my body teeters backward. I brace myself for a fall.

Instead, an arm wraps around my waist and I find myself staring into the mirrored lenses of a dark pair of Ray-Bans.

Even with his eyes hidden and his face covered in sweat he’s easily one of the most handsome men I’ve ever seen in person. He’s got a mouth most women would envy and a nose that belongs in a museum. His pores are amazing. I need to find out what he uses on his skin.

“Are you alright?” he asks, still hovering over me, still holding me up as if I weighed nothing.

“Yes.” I cough to clear the husk from my voice. “I’m sorry I wasn’t watching where I was going.”

“I was,” he murmurs.

“You were…watching where I was going?”

“No. Where I was going. So, I saw you. Caught you.” The heat from his hand seeps through the thin fabric of my sundress.

I can’t see his eyes but I swear I can feel them on my face and I don’t like that I can’t see him.

And that’s my cue to end this little…whatever it is.

“Can you let me up?” I press my hands to his chest.

“Oh.” He starts as if he didn’t realize he was holding me.
“Yes, sorry.” He straightens and lets me go. But the heat from his touch doesn’t.

“Thanks for breaking my fall. I’m Cassie.” I give a lame wave.

He flashes an unfairly perfect grin. “Nice to meet you. How long are you here?”

“All week. I’m working at the resort. You?” I ask as he starts to jog in place and glances at his watch.

“Two weeks. At least. So…maybe I’ll see you around?”

“Sure. What’s your name?”

“They call me Wild Card.” He winks and runs off.

Oh shit. I’ve already fucked up. Well at least I know who to avoid.

“I glance over my shoulder and watch him run away, his back muscles a thing of art and perfection, and sigh. “What a waste.”

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s Review: J. Saman’s Irresistibly Dangerous ✍🏻

Overall Grade: A- / B+

Tropes: forbidden relationship; marriage of convenience or fake marriage; band of brothers; best friends’ cousin; romantic suspense

“She’s my beauty, and I’m her beast.”

They say, “Be careful of the quiet ones.” J. Saman’s Irresistibly Dangerous showcases this truth through its sweeping drama for Lenox and Georgia. In fact, for me, this final book of her Irresistibly Yours series is my favorite, thanks to its driving plotline, detailed characterizations, and eroticism. Lenox is a dirty, dirty man.

Likes:

  • Lenox and Georgia’s journey of recompense. The upheaval of their constant back and forth makes for enjoyable reading.
  • The band of brothers situation that has been the foundation for this series. It’s on full display here with the added complication of the forbidden nature of Lenox and Georgia due to her cousins.
  • The general storyline. This is the romantic suspense of this series. While it isn’t much of a surprise, the suspense elements add another entertaining plotline to the book. Lenox working to find all the dirt on her CEO and his son is engaging.
  • Lenox’s protectiveness over Georgia. There is nothing more swoon worthy than a protective, fully consumed MMC. Saman has drawn Lenox well. Add to his characterization dom-feels, and it’s pure erotic fire.

Criticisms:

  • Georgia’s easy forgiveness of Lenox. I’m not partial to an FMC who forgives and forgets so easily or who is ready to get intimate with the MMC after he’s treated her with indifference. It always tweaks me.
  • Lenox’s constant reminders that he can’t be with Georgia. Saman took this further than I think it needed. When he finally decides to live his life on his own terms, I whispered a “finally” as it should have happened sooner. 

I have absolutely loved J. Saman’s Irresistibly Yours series. Generous stories coupled with keen character journeys have ingratiated themselves into my heart, and Lenox and Georgia’s Irresistibly Dangerous is the icing on the cake of this compelling series.

She smelled like damn summer.

And it pissed me off.
Plus, I was tired from a shitty night’s sleep. I’d tossed and turned thinking about Little Miss Home Improvement wearing nothing but a pair of denim short overalls and work boots—no shirt, no socks, definitely no bra or underwear.
Josie hopped down from the last two steps on the ladder. “Can I ask you something?”
“What?”
“Are you always this grumpy in the morning?”
“I’m not grumpy.”
“No? So this is what? Your idea of a sparkling personality? I asked if your coffee was okay, and you grunted at me.”
“That wasn’t a grunt. That was a yes.”
Josie made a short, deep noise that sounded like a pig.
I arched a brow. “Is that supposed to be me?”
She made the sound again, this time adding some monkeylike arm movements and jumping around. “Gronk.”
“Cute.”
She jumped again. “Gronk. Gronk.”
I tried not to react, but she was just too damn adorable.
Josie pointed at my face. “There it is again. The elusive Mr. Grumpy Pants smile. It’s kind of…dare I say…nice.” She made an exaggerated gasping sound and covered her mouth. “Oh no. I hope it’s not too painful.”
“Alright, wiseass. I get the point. How about you take your oinking ass out front and grab one of the small two by fours I left on the porch? I’ll show you how to make an easy support to hold up the drywall while it gets screwed into the ceiling.”
Josie strutted to the door. The woman was wearing a white tank top and long, pale pink, flowy skirt to do construction. It looked like she was going on a picnic date, rather than hanging sheetrock—though the tank top hugged her in all the right places, and there was something about her collarbone that I couldn’t drag my eyes away from. She bent to pick up the wood out front, and the top of her tank gaped open, giving me a clear view down her shirt. I forced my head in the other direction, though my eyes managed to slant and continue looking.
“Jesus Christ,” I grumbled to myself. “I need to get the fu¢k out of here.”

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s Review: Laney Hatcher’s Last on the List, the final book in the Bartholomew series ✍🏻

Tropes: surprise pregnancy; best friend’s brother; sister’s best friend; banter; enemies to lovers to vibes; found family

Laney Hatcher has definitely saved her best for last. Last on the List, the final story of her Bartholomew series, offers an apt end to this touchingly irreverent historical romance series. The Bartholomew siblings have definitely captured my heart, and Silas and Mary are the cherry on the hot fudge of this delicious romantic sundae. 

Whenever you write a couple with the type of fiery banter that Mary and Silas engage in, you know the story will be engaging. Hatcher deftly carries us through their “hate to love,” fiery attraction, friends with benefits, and angsty romance. I loved the pacing of their journey even though Mary’s secrecy and want to protect Silas would frustrate any reader. Yet, this is the crux of the surprise pregnancy trope, and Hatcher allows us to rest in that tension for much of the book. She needs this space, however, to help Silas recognize his love for Mary (no surprise!), but even more, understand her background and its impact on Mary’s sense of self so he can love her the best. Even more, Hatcher grants them the space to learn to “see” the other better than anyone else. This takes a careful hand and decided storytelling to do it well, and Hatcher, in my opinion, has done it in Last on the List. 

The ending of this story is poetry as we say goodbye to the Bartholomew siblings while also celebrating who Mary and Silas have become as a couple and parents. Laney Hatcher has done nothing more than make me fall deeper in love with her brand of historical romance. Hoping for more stories from her soon.
