Keep reading for a look inside The Revenge!

I didn’t recognize the night guard, but he straightened from the wall where he was positioned when I stepped into the hallway.

“Where is he?” I asked, before he could say anything.

His hands came together in front of him and he stood even taller. He nodded forward. “In the basement gym, ma’am.”

Ma’am.

I grinned at that, literally hearing Chrissy chuckling next to me. “You’re just like me now, girly. Ma’am. What a hoot.”

Yeah. A hoot.

I padded past him and headed for the elevator that went past the main section of the house. Going inside, I hit the basement floor, and there were two guards waiting for me.

I paused, seeing Josh as he was eyeing me. “Don’t you ever sleep?”

He grinned. “I sleep when your man sleeps.”

I narrowed my eyes.

His grin deepened. “So that’s rarely, ma’am.”

I bared my teeth. “Don’t you start with that ‘ma’am’ shit.”

He just laughed. “Would never entertain the thought, ma—”

I growled.

He amended, still chuckling, “Bailey.”

I scoffed, “Better.”

If anyone had asked me where the gym was on the Chesapeake estates, I wouldn’t have had a clue. I would’ve rolled my eyes and said something sarcastic like, “Of course there’s a gym; it’s alongside the Olympic-sized pool,” but now I knew exactly where it was, and it was right next to an Olympic-sized pool, though the pool was only two lanes wide. It wasn’t built for playing and horsing around, not like the pool outside, which had a complete slide with it.

Heading farther toward the gym, I was shocked to not hear sounds of grunting and punching from inside. Instead, the door to the pool was open.

“He had some extra energy to work off.”

I glanced sideways, not having heard Josh walking beside me.

“I honestly don’t think he’s human.”

Josh’s mouth twitched. “You might be on to something, Bailey.”

We came to the door and he stepped forward, checking the room before nodding for me to go ahead. I stepped inside, feeling the humidity and breathing in the chlorine before I noticed Josh shutting the door. A second later, I met his gaze through the door’s window, and he gave me another polite smile before pressing a button. The window frosted over.

Looking to the corner, I saw the camera’s light switch from green to red. Josh was giving us complete privacy, and only when that was all done did I seek out where Kash was. He was at the far end, turning, flipping, and coming up a few paces away, heading my way. I went to the edge and sat down, putting my feet in the water.

I didn’t have long to wait, enjoying the view as Kash’s arms were cutting through the water, his shoulders and biceps bulging from the motion.

I forgot how he was a fish in water.

His head was perfectly in alignment with his shoulders, and every fourth arm swing he raised his mouth up for air and went back down. He went past me. I thought he was going to keep going, but at the last second, his hand snaked out. He latched on to my ankle and tugged me into the water.

I shrieked before I was eating chlorine. “Agh!”

He grinned, the water pulsating between us, and he maneuvered me back until I was against the pool wall. “What are you doing down here?” His eyes were alert, taking me in as he placed both hands on either side of me, trapping me.

The buoyancy kept me floating, but then Kash was moving his legs under me and I was completely resting over him. My legs straddled his, and he hooked one ankle around the other, tugging me to open even wider for him.

Heat flared in me, boiling my blood, but when I thought Kash would bend his head, finding my throat, he didn’t. He moved his head back, sinking so he was on the same eye level as me, and he tugged at his sweatshirt. “Nice shirt.”

I grinned, feeling a laziness intertwining with the warmth in me. “It was this or a robe. This was closer.”

“Really?”

I nodded, enjoying the teasing look in his eyes. It was dark, but it was there. “Really.” My voice hitched on a soft sigh with that one. He grew sober, his head moving back so he could take me in more fully. “You look good.” His eyebrows dipped down. “You look like you again.” His hand moved, and he touched a wet finger beside my eye. “I see you again.”

My throat swelled up, my chest filled with an ache that was bittersweet.

“Woke up.”

“I can see that.” His head cocked to the side, but he didn’t say anything further. He was still holding me in place, and as he settled back, I knew he was waiting for me. He was waiting for whatever I was going to say or do, for whatever path I was going to put us on because that’s what I felt in that moment.

I was awake.

I said, “I know you’ve been waiting for me.”

That somber expression settled back on him and his hand went back to the pool wall, trapping me in again.

“I’ll never forget what they did to her, what he did to her, but I wasn’t myself. You gave me that time. You knew I would come back to me and I did. I’m here. Me. And I’m ready for the next chapter.”

Hunger licked my insides, lighting that fire again.

It grew, jumping up, and it was engulfing me.

I sunk down on Kash’s legs, and the higher that blaze built in me, the more I wanted him. But I wanted more.

I wanted blood.

✍🏻 Catherine Cowles’s Shattered Sea is LIVE. Grab it for your weekend reading. ✍🏻

He was the last person she expected to fall for…

Shattered Sea, a sexy, suspenseful, small-town romance from USA Today bestselling author Catherine Cowles, is out now!

Read my review 4.5 ⭐️ here.

I’ve known every kind of pain. Of the heart. Of the body. Of the soul. All I want now is the freedom that comes from making my art.

The last thing I expected was Hollywood royalty to waltz into my gallery in a small town in the middle of nowhere and see me.

A man like Boden Cavanaugh shouldn’t understand me. Shouldn’t be able to soothe my most ragged edges. Even worse, he makes me want the one thing I can’t have. Him.

All it takes is one spark, and friendship catches flame. But as our attraction burns bright, there are forces desperate to send us back into the darkness. And they’ve already killed before…

Keep reading for a look inside Shattered Sea!

The way Boden’s muscles tightened told me the little he’d shared was only the tip of the iceberg. That tension called to me, and I reached out, kneading the flesh along his shoulders. His head fell to my own shoulder, and he sighed. “I’ll only let you do that forever.”

I chuckled. “I do have the magic touch.”

“You could be making millions with those hands.”

“I only use them on very special recipients. They aren’t for sale.”

Boden straightened, but as he did, he came closer. Our faces were close. Lips just a breath away. The urge to lean forward, to know what he felt like, tasted like, was strong. Boden’s hand skated up my arm to my neck to tangle in my hair.
I knew that Boden Cavanaugh was more than dangerous. But like a moth to a flame, I kept getting closer.

Check out this SNEAK PEEK!
Crash!
Shit. Billie and I looked at each other. A devilish smirk spread across her face…and then she turned and bolted.
I looked around. The coast seemed clear, so I ran as fast as I could while pushing a heaping cart full of crap. For the last hour and a half, Billie had been picking things out and holding them up to show me. If I agreed, she chucked them over her shoulder for me to catch with the cart. I’d been zigging and zagging, trying to scoop up all the merchandise she threw as I followed her around—both of us laughing like school kids the entire time. That is, until I missed that last toss and a glass bowl shattered on the floor.
IKEA was a giant maze, and both of us kept running, turning left and then right, until we finally arrived in the warehouse portion of the store, which was right before the checkout line. Billie leaned over with her hands on her knees, huffing and puffing.
“I think we’re in the clear,” she said.
“Pretty sure I would’ve rather paid for the twelve-dollar bowl than make a run for it. This cart is so full, it almost tipped like ten times.”
She laughed. “Did we get everything we need?”
“I’m not sure. But we definitely bought a lot of shit we don’t need. Like I think we could have done without the motorized ice cream cone spinners. The tenant can lick their own ice cream.”
Billie grinned. “Those are for me and Saylor. They light up, too!”
I snorted. “Come on, let’s check out before I’m completely broke.”
While we loaded everything onto the conveyor belt, I lifted my chin toward the in-store restaurant located just after the cashier stations. “You still up for meatballs?”
“Uh…hello? It’s the only reason I came.”
I clutched my hand over my heart. “Oww, that hurts. And here I thought you came for the company.”
After we were all checked out, I wheeled the cart over to a table for two in the corner of the restaurant. “Why don’t you stay here with the stuff, and I’ll go get us some meatballs.”
“Okay. But can you get me a drink, too, please? I’m so thirsty.”
When I came back, I set two big plates of meatballs on the table.
“Did you forget the drinks?” Billie asked.
I grinned and lifted a finger. “Actually, I didn’t. I brought them.” My gym bag from earlier had been lying on the bottom shelf underneath the cart since we walked in. Taking it out, I unzipped and started to unpack. “Wine, madame?” I held a bottle of merlot over one arm, showing the label like a maître d’.
Billie cracked up. “You brought wine with you? I thought it was strange when you took your duffle bag into the store. But I figured maybe your wallet was in it and stuff.”
I shrugged. “What choice did I have? You won’t go out with me, so I have to make the best out of our undate at IKEA.” I unloaded two plastic wine glasses, white cloth napkins, and a candleholder with a red candle.
Billie picked up the candle and examined it before raising a brow. “A winter village scene?”
I shrugged. “They’re Christmas candles. I only had an hour to get out of the house with a four-year-old. Don’t judge.”
The looks we got from the people around us as we ate meatballs by candlelight were pretty comical. I was also pretty sure it was against the rules to have an open flame in IKEA, let alone an open bottle of wine, but evidently the people behind the counter hadn’t read the employee rule book to be certain. Either way, the smile on Billie’s face made it all worthwhile. After we were done eating, I blew out the candle and started to pack up.
“You know…” Billie shook her head. “I think you just snuck a date into our undate.”
I shoved the cork back into the top of the wine bottle and zippered it into my duffle. “I did not.”
She squinted at me. “I’m pretty sure you did. What’s the difference between what we just did and a date? We shared a candlelight meal with wine and cloth napkins.”
I leaned down and whispered in her ear. “The difference is, you don’t get to come at the end.”
When I pulled back, Billie’s jaw was hanging open. I freaking loved that she looked so affected. She swallowed. “Is that the way all your dates end?”
I shook my head back and forth slowly. “No, but it’s damn straight the way ours would.”

BLURB
It all started when I hosted a little party for a bunch of new friends.
Though “friends” might not be the right word since the invitees were all the women I’d found out my boyfriend was talking to behind my back. When the guest of honor walked in—aka my now ex—things took a turn…
Unfortunately, a stranger witnessed the whole blowout. I was in a mood that night and ended up giving this gorgeous guy an attitude, too. As if my night could get any worse, before he stormed off, he informed me he was actually my landlord.
Colby Lennon, along with three of his friends, owned the building where my tattoo shop was located. He and I were total opposites. He wore a tie, oozed confidence that came with years of women falling at his feet, and wasn’t afraid to say what he wanted, which lately—was me.
I hated that I found myself attracted to him. Especially since I was supposed to be on a self-imposed dating hiatus. Yet the two of us couldn’t seem to stay away from each other. We started hanging out, as friends. I even went as far as making rules for what he’d dubbed our “undates.”
But eventually, our explosive attraction became too much to bear, and we broke our resolve. I let my guard down and started to really fall for Colby.
Nothing could have prepared me for the ride he took me on. And I certainly wasn’t prepared for where I’d wind up when the ride was over.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s More than 5 ⭐️ Review: Jewel E. Ann’s Pieces of A Life ✍🏻

Overall Grade: All the freaking stars!!!

“There’s so much in life that’s not black and white—so many things that require explanation before one can make accurate inferences. What if we learned to reserve judgment until we knew the whole story? I think I’d like that world.”

Let me begin with a promise, call it a premonition about your read of Jewel E. Ann’s Pieces of A Life: you will go back and re-read the “Prologue” of this book once you reach its end. I may not be Athelinda, the parapsychologist, of this story and the former Life Series duet, but I’m confident that you will go looking for the secrets of this story to carry you into the next book of this duet, Memories of A Life. And I hate to break it to you…you won’t find them. Not yet.

Pieces of A Life is special. It’s an example of Jewel E. Ann’s storytelling. It’s been over two years, and I am still shocked by the books she brings to life. Often, authors have a signature, a voice, and it can become “worn in”. Jewel has a bent for sure, a distinction to her storytelling that sets her apart from the other romance writers. I enter her books, knowing this, remembering it from her last story whether it’s a rom-com, romantic suspense, paranormal-light romance, or contemporary romance. Every. Dang. Time. I’m bowled over by her capacity to find places to inhabit that feel fresh in the world of romance. And I tell her, over and over again.

Pieces of A Life is more of this. Maybe it’s the dual POV that flashes between the past and the present with the past repeating itself in the present. Possibly it’s the insight about normality that infiltrates this story. I hate to use the word “quirky” for Josie, the book’s FMC. It feels reductive and childish to use that word to describe her. She is different from her peers (something that attracts Colten, the MMC), but Josie, in her youth, struggles with it only in contrast to her interest in Colten. He is the yin to her yang or vice versa, and his existence creates a pause in her understanding of herself. Josie sees the world differently from the average; it’s what makes her special to Colten, but it also brings a bit of pain to Josie. This is why she is my favorite character in this book (and the duet). Colten angered me. I didn’t like him for much of this story because, whether he understood it or not, he tries to normalize Josie. And you WANT Josie to exist as “an other.” I love that she’s a talented medical examiner, that she doesn’t want marriage and babies, that she eschews the expectations of both Colten and her parents. She’s decided and brilliant and the most exciting part of Pieces of A Life. Through her, Jewel challenges us to consider the question “what is normal.” She wants us to understand that difference should be celebrated because it’s better and more interesting.

And this story. Oh. My. Word. This story will break your heart one minute, seal the break back up, and leave you speechless and breathless in the end. I won’t tell you the details beyond the ones I proffered above. Just know…Pieces of A Life is an extraordinary book intent on a variety of things: it will make you laugh, it will make you tear up, and it will shock you. In a word, Jewel E. Ann is in the business of titillation, and she does that brilliantly. Buy, buy, buy this book. You will NOT regret it. Oh, and she writes the HECK out of her stories. There. That’s the final reason to grab this book TODAY.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4.5 ⭐️ Review: Catherine Cowles’s Shattered Sea ✍🏻

Overall Grade: 4.5 ⭐️

“You simply had to do your best to make something beautiful out of the shattered pieces.”

How do you move past tragedy? How do you find meaning in the presence of loss? These questions are the foundation of Catherine Cowles’s beautiful story, Shattered Sea. Following Boden, a Hollywood mega-star, and Laiken, the small-town girl “etched in grief,” Cowles weaves a story about two people struggling with their scars who are drawn to each other from the day they meet. Cowles’s talent in romance is drawing stories strewn with angst; oftentimes, these are portraits of grief and trauma. She takes these problematic topics and wraps them in enduring romances with the heart of a small town community. Stories such as Shattered Sea are “forever love” stories. Unfortunately, to get there, she must put her readers through their paces, and she does this in a big way in this newest book. There is always a villain, and most of the time she’s careful to avoid forecasting this character. I suspected the villain of this story, but I’ll be honest, it was a bit of a curveball, keeping me on my toes almost to the end of the book.

What I loved the most about Shattered Sea is Boden’s almost instantaneous love for Laiken. In this story, Laiken requires to be loved as Boden loves her. She’s endured heavy levels of pain. As Boden falls in love with her, you find yourself drawn to him because he heals her soul in unexpected ways.

I also loved Cowles’s infusion of dogs to mimic Boden and Laiken’s love affair. It adds cute to this story and creates a respite from the story’s angst.

Finally, Cowles continues to infuse the found family trope into her Tattered & Torn series, as Laiken and Boden find themselves surrounded by the former characters of this series. She adds in a few more characters to underscore the power of a family formed through love and respect, not blood, and she grabs your heart as she’s wont to do with her stories.

Once again, Catherine Cowles has written a gorgeous story about overcoming obstacles in our lives. She’s infused it with her special recipe of love in small towns. Shattered Sea reminds me WHY I will always read a Catherine Cowles romance.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4.5 ⭐️ Review: Tijan’s The Revenge, an Insiders novel ✍🏻

Overall Grade: 4.5 ⭐️

To get to the end of Tijan’s The Revenge is to survive a wild ride. What I love most about this book is Kash’s undying love for Bailey. Seriously, it never falters in this story. It’s sacrificial and consumptive, and it’s the piece of this book that anchors you to it. I kept waiting for trouble between them. While there is a moment when you believe it’s coming, the love between Bailey and Kash is simply soul-deep. Romance readers dream of the type of love Tijan’s written beautifully into The Revenge

Since this is guaranteed (and I don’t think that’s spoilery), the other parts of the story can explode. And they do. There are so many twists and turns in this story. It’s one of the reasons I cannot speak to the plot points. To do so would be to give too much of this book away. What I can tell you is Tijan’s final story in The Insider’s Trilogy is captivating. You find yourself holding your breath while turning the page. Secondly, by the story’s end, you will feel satiated, fulfilled. Other than potential stories for the other characters of this trilogy, Kash and Bailey have been given the perfect ending. I finished The Revenge with a smile and a sigh. Tijan’s newest book and its predecessors will make your head spin in all the best ways.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4.5 ⭐️ Review: Skye Warren’s Two for the Show ✍🏻

Overall Grade: 4.5 ⭐️

Skye Warren’s second book in her One for the Money series, Two for the Show, quite honestly was surprising. There is an emotional gravitas to this story that had begun to infiltrate the first book of this series, One for the Money. Given that this second book starts where the first one left off AND ends with another complicated cliffhanger, I can’t divulge, or rather, I don’t want to reveal any of the book’s plot points in this review. Let me tell you what you should know for WHY you should read this story and its trilogy:

  1. Eva Morelli is my favorite Morelli in the Midnight Dynasty universe. The Morellis have been problematic due to their upbringing, but Eva is intelligent and compassionate. She’s a natural caretaker and infuses this heart into her relationship with Finn. She doesn’t coddle him; she sees him and speaks into his worry.
  1. Finn has more character dimensions in this book. It was burgeoning in the series’ first book, but it finds greater depth in this story. His familial history is problematic; Skye Warren uses his character development to underscore a message about hope. Finn and Eva dance back and forth over the idea of living with hope. Finn prefers to expect the worst, while Eva challenges him to dream of a different outcome. The message of hope is heavy throughout Two for the Show, elevating this trilogy.
  1. Two for the Show’s ending is complicated. One moment, Eva’s hope is born, and the next, drama challenges that hope. This space is where Warren leaves her readers. It’s engaging and creates a ravenous interest for the next book in this series. I cannot wait for the rest of Finn and Eva’s journey.

If you’ve spent any amount of time with the Morelli’s in the Midnight Dynasty universe, Skye Warren’s One for the Money series is a MUST READ. Whether you pick up Two for the Show now or later when the trilogy is complete, it doesn’t matter. Simply grab it and dive into Finn and Eva’s delicious drama.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4 ⭐️ Review: Lexi Blake’s No Time to Lie ✍🏻

Overall Grade: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Lexi Blake’s No Time to Lie is everything you adore about her Masters and Mercenaries world. If you’ve been reading the Reloaded series, then you are familiar with Drake Radcliffe, that smarmy CIA agent who both assists and complicates McKay-Taggart operations. There is a backstory involving his story that gains more steam in this newest offering. And it makes for a heck of a romantic suspense ride.

At her core, Lexi Blake writes some exciting romantic suspense. There are twists and turns that take her readers down different avenues of action. This is commonplace in Blake’s series. It is also true for No Time to Lie. There is so much that happens in this story. The relationship between Drake and Taylor is told in the past and in the present. As such, we endure their second chance at love. As is the case with most Blake romances, Taylor and Drake encounter instant attraction and love. However, their lives become complicated by their roles, Drake as a CIA agent and Taylor as support for her operative father. In the beginning, they find themselves stuck in a CIA hiding spot where they fall quickly for each other. When the outside world threatens them, they are separated, and each of them feels betrayed by the other. Blake moves us forward 18 months, and these two reencounter each other on a special operation to take down an evil organization, one in which Drake’s enemy sister takes part. No Time to Lie is quick-paced, and you find yourself pulled into Drake and Taylor’s initial fall and eventual reconciliation, but Blake doesn’t take it easy on them, elongating their reconciliation.

Blake’s characterization of Drake and Taylor is typical. Drake is complicated: he comes from privilege, has “daddy” issues, and both loves and detests his sister. He’s not entirely looking for a “Taylor” in his life. Taylor is also complicated: insightful, strong, and committed to her father. When their lives explode, Taylor reacts by becoming stronger and more capable. Quite frankly, when they reunite, Drake struggles with her. This makes for some of the funniest portions of the story, and it causes readers to gain a greater appreciation for her.

Thankfully, what I love most about this series and Lexi Blake’s world of espionage is the community she has created. Big Tag is here along with past characters whom we have previously fallen in love with. These characters are the wizened guides for the current character stories of the Reloaded series. Thanks to Big Tag, Drake “sees” Taylor better, and their reunion grows into more, exactly where Blake wants her readers to fall in love with her story.

I would say the downfall of these stories is the, oftentimes, repetitive nature of them. Thankfully, I’m a fan of this extended universe, so it’s exciting to read former characters in current stories. At the end of this book, there is a massive tease for Blake’s next series, and I can’t wait to see where McKay-Taggart et al. is headed in the future. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense, some BDSM, and universes of characters, you should really jump into Lexi Blake’s Masters & Mercenaries worlds.

Blurb:

Past and present weave together in Donovan’s point of view for the next chapter in Donovan and Sabrina’s life.

She was supposed to save me.

In a twist of fate, I rescued her. Since then, I’ve lived for her, breathed for her, overreached with my love.

She’s still here, so I must be doing something right. But now I want more.

Except, a dangerous secret from my past threatens to come between us, forcing me to confront what kind of man I am.

And whether I’m the one who can save our future.

Or whether fate has other plans for us.

This book follows the Dirty Duet. It’s not necessary to read all the books in the Dirty Universe before reading this, but it is recommended for a better reading experience.

About Laurelin:

With millions of books sold worldwide, Laurelin Paige is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author. She is a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however.

When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Killing Eve or Letterkenny, or dreaming of Michael Fassbender. She’s also a proud member of Mensa International though she doesn’t do anything with the organization except use it as material for her bio.

She is represented by Rebecca Friedman.

Laura Pavlov has revealed the gorgeous cover for Simply Mine!

Releasing: October 20, 2022

Cover Designer: Hang Le

Photographer: Regina Wamba

She’s looking for Mr. Right. I can offer her Mr. Right Now. That’s my specialty.

He’s my best friend’s older brother.

He was also my teenage crush and completely out of reach.

But we had our secrets—moments that nobody knew about.

I’d tucked them away in a safe place, and that’s where I’d planned to keep them.

He’d moved to the city, and I’d moved on.

But now he was back in Honey Mountain for a few weeks.

And he’d found endless reasons to spend time with me.

What started out as rekindling our friendship turned into a different kind of… stroking the fire.

No pun intended.

It was temporary.

Just another secret that we’d keep between us.

Ledger Dane came with an expiration date.

He’d always been one foot out the door.

Why would this time be any different?
