A super-hot, enemies-to-lovers, billionaire romance
from USA Today bestselling author Tia Louise.

Legend has it, the man you kiss at a wedding is the man you’ll marry.
In my case, it’s nothing but trouble.

Spencer Carrollton is a dark-haired, hazel-eyed beast.
When I collided with him at my cousin’s wedding, I wasn’t looking for love.
But his naughty eyes flashed, his full lips curled into a knowing smile, and I should have run.
I didn’t.
I kissed him instead.

Then he gave me a job when I needed it the most.
I never get involved with clients, but Spencer Carrollton is wickedly handsome in a bespoke suit.
He’s devastatingly sexy out of it.
He’s possessive, demanding, and the best night I’ve ever had.

He’s an arrogant billionaire, who thinks I’ll fall at his feet, but I’m not going down that road again.
Then he pulls me out of danger and insists I move in with him until it’s safe.
As the nights pass and we grow closer, I know I’m losing this fight.
Spencer Carrollton always gets what he wants.
The trouble is, he wants me.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4.5 ⭐️ Review: Max Monroe’s The Bet ✍🏻

Dear Max Monroe,

Overall grade: 4.5 ⭐️

Just when I think you’ll give us more of your delicious brand of rom-com, you twist it and bring us something a bit edgier and a whole lot steamier. Your book, The Bet, feels different from your recent fare, Oops I’ve Fallen and Grumpy Cowboy. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love a funny story that tickles my funny bone. However, there is something almost silly in their manifestation. And I loved them because you always offer what I need at the moment. But The Bet…whew, The Bet. Well, that is something altogether different. Yes, you had Thatch make a cameo again for your beloved readers who adore that rapscallion of a character. You also proffered up brief cameos of Kline, Georgia, and Cassie; granted, they had one line, but you reminded us of this universe of rom-comness that you two have created. But this book is, by my estimation, your steamiest to date. When you say in your introduction that there are a lot of Os in this book, ummm…well, you were not lying, and I think your long-time fans will love your foray into steamier fare away from that slow burn that you’ve been touting in recent books.

I will say, though. I wasn’t a fan of Jude for a large portion of this story, which might surprise other readers. He eventually gets with the program and acts as I would hope a romantic hero should act, but there were times when I was yelling at Sophie to run. You even gave her a therapist who encourages her to “have fun” with him, when I wanted to say “get away from the manw*ore.” Yet, that created the tension of this story. It gave it an edge that feels different from the last several stories you’ve written. The Bet felt a little like your Jerk duet with a light shade of 4th and Girl, the story that brought me to you and your quirky universe of beloved characters. And I’m HERE for this direction.

If I have one criticism of The Bet, it would lie with the last few chapters where you prepare for Remy, Ty, and Flynn’s books. I get that you need to set up the rest of the series, but I thought it was a little too obvious and interrupted Jude and Sophie’s story in a way that felt tangential. However, you set up the series, and I’m now incredibly excited for their stories as much as I loved Jude and Soph’s.

But let’s be honest. You two are still the masters of rom-coms, so there is plenty of funny here. It just tends to be usurped by all of the steam of this book. I mean a Girl Scout-inspired badge system? And that place that Jude takes Sophie…consider me shocked and titillated by your dark, $exy sides.

All in all, The Bet continues to remind me that your storytelling draws me in and makes me feel like I’ve found a home in each book. I’m ready, though, for the rest of those Winslow brothers. Based on Remy and Flynn’s responses to Jude being in love, they all need to fall…and FAST.

In love and romance,

Professor A

✍🏻 I’d say to run and grab The Bet for a “good laugh” this weekend, BUTTT Max Monroe have written a story that, seriously, has more steam than laughs. If you love a hero who’s a player yet is brought to his knees by the heroine, then grab this one NOW! ✍🏻

When it comes to life’s fun and games, always know:
The rules.
What’s at stake.
When to quit.

The Bet, an all new laugh out loud rom com from New York Times bestselling author Max Monroe is available now!

Wise words from…well…my fortune cookie. But wise words, nonetheless.

I just wish the Fortune Cookie People had considered how hard the whole “knowing when to quit” would be to carry out when a woman like me is gambling with her feelings.

Heart-palpitating, vageen-tingling, butterflies-in-my-belly feelings for a noncommittal, hot-as-sin player by the name of Jude Winslow.

After a crazy night where we were both pretending to be someone else, I’ve found myself immersed in the fun of the fling.
The thrill.
The irresistible charm.
The pleasure of being with a man like him.

Problem is, I’m positive he’s the exact opposite of husband material, and that is a serious issue for someone who is fixated on finding her happily ever after.

I know the rules and I know the stakes, oh wise Fortune Cookie.

Now I’d just like to know how close to self-destruction I have to get before I find the will to quit Jude Winslow.

Goodness knows, when your heart is on the line, you can’t ante up your bet with an IOU.

Excerpt

Leif Larsen lives in a big old brown brick building with a sprawling dogwood out front in a cool urban neighborhood. No one answers when I press the buzzer. But according to the details on the scrap of paper the nurse gave me, I’ve got the right place.

What to do?

The rational response would be to give up and go home. Because hiding out in my childhood bedroom has worked out great so far (and this would be sarcasm). It’s been months since I left the house for anything other than a medical appointment. Weeks since I’ve heard from any friends. Right on cue, my cell buzzes inside my tan Coach purse. I don’t bother to look. Mom requests proof of life every hour on the hour. Not even dinner at the country club can distract her, apparently. Her parental concern for me is well past claustrophobic.

My hand clenches the iron railing against a gust of unseasonably warm evening wind. It’s been a while since I stopped using a mobility aid, but things can still feel tricky. The whole damn world does, if I’m being honest. So many things I took for granted have now been turned upside down.

This is the problem with living the supposed dream. With having an airtight plan for your life. Meet Prince Charming and marry him. Find the perfect job. Only problem is, if something goes wrong, when reality smacks you upside the head and sends you reeling, then there’s no system for putting the pieces back together. There’s no Plan B because it never occurred to you that you’d need one. A lack of imagination on my part, perhaps.

A motorcycle pulls up to the curb and it’s like everything happens in slow motion. Something about this long, lean man just makes time want to stand still. A denim-clad leg is swung over the back of the iron beast. A helmet is removed and shoulder-length hair tumbles free. High cheekbones and perfect lips are framed by stubble and all I can do is stare.

I don’t know if I’m intimidated or turned on or what.

“Can I help y . . .” he begins. There’s the faintest spark of recognition in his eyes.

I continue to stand there frozen.

“Fuck me,” he mutters, stalking closer. His gaze slides over me from top to toe, lingering on the small scars on my left cheek from the glass. There’s no attempt made to hide his curiosity. “It’s really you.”

Nichelle the nurse described him as being a nice young man. Nothing more. Certainly nothing that would prepare me for this. And I dispute “nice.” Ripped denim, battered leather, and a Harley-Davidson motorbike are not nice.

“Never seen you conscious before,” he says, getting even closer.

I just blink.

From beneath the collar and cuffs of his leather jacket emerge colorful tattoos. Lots of them. Blue waves and black letters. Red flames and white flowers. The man is a walking, talking piece of art. My parents would be horrified. Ryan too, for that matter. Not that any of their opinions matter. I need to forge my own path. Go my own way.

“How did you find me?” he asks with a faint frown.

“Oh. Ah.” I smooth down the front of my pale blue midi-length linen summer dress. My dark hair is slicked back in a low ponytail and my makeup is simple but perfect. It’s nice having some things I can control. “One of the nurses from the ICU told me about you and I wanted to come say thank you. But maybe an apology would be more in order?”

For a moment he pauses, then he asks, “Do you want to come in?”

Good question. The fact is, I don’t know. Nor do I know how to do this. Something made obvious when my mouth opens, but nothing comes out. So much nothing for such a length of time that it’s beyond embarrassing. Dammit. Whatever it is I came here looking for, it wasn’t this. Him. Whatever.

“We’ve never properly met, have we?” He holds out his big hand. “Hi, I’m Leif.”

“Anna.”

While I’m tentative, he shows no such reserve. Strong, warm fingers enfold my own stiff and cold ones. There’s no attempt at a dominating handshake or groping. He gives my hand a squeeze, just the one gentle squeeze, before setting me free.

“I’d say it’s nice to meet you, but that would be weird.” He grins conspiratorially and oh my God. Everything low in my stomach wakes up and takes notice. Shame on my lady parts, but the chemical pull of the man is ridiculous. It takes me a minute to remember that I’m a married woman. Mostly. Well, somewhat anyway. I certainly have no business smiling at him like I am. My life is messed up enough without adding a crush. Perhaps it’s in reaction to me, I don’t know, but the mirth disappears and his gaze becomes serious. A little bleak even. “I still have nightmares about that day, you know?”

“I’m sorry.”

“Not your fault.”

“I shouldn’t have come.”

“Don’t, Anna. Don’t look like that. I didn’t tell you to hurt you or make you uncomfortable. I was just . . . sharing.” His expression changes again, a more subdued smile taking the place of the brief hint of trauma. Then he suddenly winks at me all flirty like. I don’t know how to react. I can barely keep up. The man is a whirlwind. “Want to come in and have a beer with me?”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

“I just . . . I don’t want to remind you of things you’d rather—”

“I want you to come inside. I wouldn’t have asked otherwise.”

A drink with a pretty wild man that I have a strange sort of history with or a swift return to safety and boredom? I don’t overthink it. I don’t even hesitate. “Then yes, Leif. I’d love to.”

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 5 ⭐️ Review: Willa Nash’s The Brazen ✍🏻

Overall Grade: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

It wasn’t a hardship reading Devney Perry aka Willa Nash’s The Brazen. Not. In. The. Least. Why? Well, for one, she is a go-to author for me for small-town romance. If she writes a book, I’m devouring it in a single sitting, and The Brazen is no exception. Secondly, this newest book in her Calamity Montana series is my favoritest of favorite tropes: enemies-to-lovers.

We’ve met her heroine in the earlier books of this series, The Bribe and The Bluff: Kerrigan Hale. This character is everything you LOVE in a woman: independent, tenacious, industrious, and creative. She takes life and makes it her b*tch. In The Brazen, she encounters Pierce, the grandson of her mentor, Gabriel. A tragedy has befallen his family, and he’s in Calamity to call on the loan his grandfather offered Kerrigan for her enterprise. From the first moment these two meet, it is an explosion of hate and attraction. For the first third of the book, maybe even the half, these two can’t help wanting to be around each other while also wanting to strangle the other. And that is manna to this romance reader’s soul. I could eat of that over and over again. Why? Because the deeper the initial hate, the greater the fall into love and lust. This is the entire case with The Brazen. Kerrigan and Pierce are fated, and their journey is fraught with lots of obstacles: past secrets, future landmines, and Kerrigan’s unsupportive family. However, what makes The Brazen an absolute must-read is the evolving romance between these two. If you’ve read enemies-to-lovers, then you know the hero falls HARD. With that in mind, you will want to read this story.

I inhaled this book. It’s a quick read because Willa Nash aka Devney’s style is fluid and accessible. The story breezes over the page, and Kerrigan and Pierce’s love story pulls you through their book. Interestingly enough, the characters of the first two books of the series only have brief cameos; however, we meet the Hale family in full force. Maybe…there might be stories in Kerrigan’s siblings’ futures. Who knows? If you’re hoping for more of Lucy and Everly, there isn’t much. Instead, you’re treated to the next couple in the Calamity Montana series, Nellie and Cal. If you think Kerrigan and Pierce are fireworks, I think Devney is saving the best for the last.

The Brazen is a stunning story about letting go of the past through embracing the vessel of love. It’s a tale that is exciting, emotional, and engaging, and it will tug at your heart while titillating your soul. It’s another piece of evidence for why Devney Perry/Willa Nash is an instant one-click for my Kindle.

In love and romance,

Professor A

For years, her mentor–and investor–helped make her dreams come true. Until his unexpected death put her fate in his grandson’s hands. A brazen billionaire, he seems intent on ruining Kerrigan’s life.

But if Pierce Sullivan thinks she’ll go down without a fight, he’s sorely mistaken. Pushed to the extreme, she drives to his ritzy mountain lodge to force the arrogant You Can Call Me Mr. Sullivan to hear her out.

And it only gets worse when we have to stash ourselves away in a small town where our calculated cover is to be a recently engaged couple.

My new mission is now significantly harder.

Don’t let her hate what’s for dinner.

Don’t let anyone else make her laugh more than I do.

And, most importantly, don’t let myself actually fall for someone again.

After all, my job isn’t to love my boss’s sister.

It’s to stop an unidentified threat from taking her – or die trying.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4.5 ⭐️ Review: Rebecca Jenshak’s Broken Hearts, the next book of the Campus Nights’ series ✍🏻

“That’s just what it’s like with Sienna. She makes bad days better. She makes everything better.”

Overall Grade: 4.5 ⭐️

If you’ve been reading Rebecca Jenshak’s Campus Nights’s stories, then you are familiar with Rhett, Adam and Heath’s roommate who has struggled with his relationship with his long-distance girlfriend. No one seems to like her except Rhett, and it causes some issues with the chemistry of the apartment. Not a lot of issues, but going into Broken Hearts, Rhett’s story, you’re ready for him to find the woman who truly fits him.

We meet the heroine of Jenshak’s story quickly. Sienna is a figure skater who attends Valley U. Like Rhett, she’s in her final year at Valley, and she’s unsure where her life will take her after graduation. She will no longer skate competitively, she isn’t sure what she really wants to do with her life, and working for the same company as her father doesn’t interest her.

One day, wanting some alone time on the ice, she stays behind after practice, only to be met with Rhett, who also is looking for peace. When they decide to share the ice, everything is going well until two of Rhett’s teammates show up. Even though they are louder than she would prefer, she decides to ignore them…until she can’t because Rhett accidentally runs into her and knocks her down. It is there when Rhett and Sienna’s story begins. As both of them traverse their busy schedules and various meetings, they begin to grow feelings for each other. However, tragedy strikes and almost derails their journey.

As is the case with other Rebecca Jenshak stories, Rhett in Broken Hearts falls hard for Sienna. There is an ease to their relationship that you don’t find in the earlier books with his long-distance girlfriend. For Rhett to find Sienna and grow almost instantly attached to her, you can’t help but love his character in this story. There are eventual complications, ones I don’t want to divulge here, but the trend of Jenshak’s hero and heroine spending much of the story together continues in this book. They are sweet together, and their story touches your heart.

Rebecca Jenshak’s Broken Hearts is a story about finding your true partner and “leaning” into them when times are tough. It’s about becoming vulnerable when you want to run and hide because, in the end, the payoff is greater intimacy and greater love. And that is what you get from Broken Hearts: big love. In fact, I think the epilogue and bonus epilogue might just be the sweetest of the bunch.

In love and romance,

Professor A
