✍🏻 Y’all…Y’ALL! The SmartyPants Romance Spring 2022 Release starts with a bang. Juliette Cross’s Parks and Provocation is everything you expect from this group of romances AND more. I dare you not to fall in love with Jedediah Lawson! ✍🏻

Parks and Provocation, an all new enemies-to-lovers small town romance from Juliette Cross, is LIVE in Kindle Unlimited!

Lola Landry stares through the window of her locked car with the keys in the ignition and the radio blaring Beck’s “Loser.” While standing there and sweltering in the soupy Tennessee humidity, she wonders how her orderly life had crashed and burned so badly. Then her high school nemesis saunters up in all of his tall, strapping, fireman-to-the-rescue glory, slapping her with the humiliating proof that it can always get worse.

When the uber-confident Jedediah Lawson requests a date in return for popping her lock, a lightbulb goes off. Revenge is sweet. He would make the perfect victim—guest, that is—for her next podcast episode on Kiss and Tell. What shocks her is the casual way he not only agrees to the post-date interview on air, but ends up hijacking her audience and wooing them with his swoony, southern charm. Not even a low score on the date-o-meter can dissuade the man or keep her fans from demanding more of the charismatic Jed.

What’s worse, she secretly wants a second date with this man who is so different from his teenage self. His unwavering patience and dimpled smile erodes her will, until she breaks the Kiss and Tell rules by agreeing to a second…and a third date. It’s a disaster. Not the date. They’re wonderful. The disaster is that she is falling for a man she once dubbed Jockstrap Jed.

‘Parks and Provocation’ is a full-length contemporary romance and can be read as a standalone. Book #2 in the Green Valley Heroes series, Green Valley Chronicles, Penny Reid Book Universe.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4.5 ⭐️ Review: Meghan Quinn’s Those Three Little Words ✍🏻

Overall Grade: 4.5 ⭐️

I’ve been trying to determine the best allusion, metaphor, or simile to describe Meghan Quinn’s romances. It’s too easy to call them rom-coms or contemporary romances or anything of that ilk because she writes stories that seem like a sugary piece of taffy when they are more like a decadent truffle. Her newest story, Those Three Little Words, is an enticing bonbon. The outside is sweet and fun, with a decided coating of excitement. A one-night romp turns into a surprise baby for Penny and Eli, one of the fabulous five hockey hunks from Quinn’s Kiss and Don’t Tell. Yet, the depth of flavor of the inside of this romance mires you in the gravity of her story. Penny and Eli have much more than a wild romp and a developing baby. They have pasts to contend with and feelings to process. What you believe you are getting in Those Three Little Words is more, and this is Quinn’s trademark, her signature, in the world of romancelandia: writing romances that seem like pure sugar but end up being 24 karat gold.

Loss is at the core of this story. The fun-loving nature of Eli is only a facade carefully constructed to protect his heart from loss and loneliness. It takes the independent, intelligent, and enticing Penny, Pacey’s little sister, to move beyond Eli’s emotional walls to get to his gooey center. Those Three Little Words is a slow burn that is necessary for Eli and Penny’s growth. You must be patient with these two. Yet, when they finally acknowledge their affection (thank you for Penny’s second trimester), Quinn pulls off the protective bandage, and these two are pure fire together. I don’t remember a recent Quinn story where the main characters spend so much time indelicato. Penny and Eli cannot get enough of each for the last third of Quinn’s book, so prepare yourself with the right pair of underwear.

As characters, Eli and Penny bring both laughs and tears. Eli is a bit of a cinnamon roll hero, his pain always close under the surface, making him adorable and protective when it comes to Penny. Penny can be pure lunacy in some of the best ways. She has a penchant for storytelling to work her way out of situations, and it’s laughable. Her best friend, Blakely, is her partner in crime and her wizened guide (it’s possible she might have her own story in this Quinn universe). And Posey, Pacey, Holmes, and Taters provide levels of friendship and family, each of them adding either humor, threats, or advice for our hunky hero.

Meghan Quinn’s Those Three Little Words is a tasty treat. Quinn is so thoughtful in developing their story and carefully plotting its pace. It would have been easy for Penny and Eli to jump into a relationship at the news of her pregnancy, but Quinn allows them to figure out friendship before they puzzle out their love. Eli’s story will break your heart, but Penny’s adoration and compassion will seal it. This is the exact type of romance you love from Meghan Quinn.

In love and romance,

Blurb:

From USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling author Meghan Quinn comes a brand new romantic comedy about a one-night stand gone completely wrong. Laugh out loud and steamy with a heart-stopping happily ever after.

I knocked up my best friend’s sister.

Figured I would get straight to the point because how it happened is a mere snippet of the story I have to tell. The real meat and potatoes is what happened after.

Let’s start with how she decided to inform me and Pacey the news . . . together. Imagine that nightmare. I was going into what I thought was a hockey marketing meeting and then BAM! I’m going to be a dad and my best friend/teammate is attempting to imprint my face with his fist.

It wasn’t pretty.

Threats were tossed around, friendships were revoked, and then I was marched up to her apartment, suitcases in hand, and forced to live with her so I could take care of her every need. Given how much I’ve pined for the girl, you would think that wouldn’t be a hardship. Wrong.

This is my one shot to win my teammate back. Pacey is the only family I’ve got, so hooking up with his sister isn’t a mistake I can make twice . . . despite the fact that she’s pregnant with my child.

But with every mood swing, every pair of pants that doesn’t fit right, and every late night run to find the perfect donut, I’m finding it harder and harder not to fall for my best friend’s little sister.

Especially when she kisses me…

Excerpt:

**ELI**

I’m a fun guy.

Some might say . . . neat.

A solid, trustworthy good time.

If you’re looking to have an amusing night out, I’m your man.

No drama.

No worries.

Just good old-fashioned fun.

I learned from a young age that life is short, and you have to fucking enjoy every second of it. So my rule is to say yes.

Say yes to as much shit as you can.

Hornsby, want to go to the pub down the street and get wasted with the locals?

Of course.

Hornsby, do you want to go skinny-dipping in the coach’s pool—when he’s home?

Absolutely.

Hornsby, do you want to fly to Vegas on our day off and run up the poker tables?

That’s a hell yes.

Living in the moment, that’s my motto, and up until now, that motto has served me well. It has taken me places I never thought I’d go. It has presented me with opportunities I never thought I would have.

But . . . and that’s a big but, a huge one.

This time, my yes has come back to bite me in the ass.

You see, it all happened on my birthday. We had an off day, high from a big win against the Calgary Barnburners. It was Valentine’s Day—yes, I’m a Valentine’s baby—and we went to the best singles bar in the city that would be crawling with women.

The drinks were flowing.

The conversations were engaging.

And I was by no means calling it a night anytime soon.

That’s when she walked into the bar.

In a hot pink dress that clung to every inch of her curvy body, she styled her platinum-blonde hair into long, silky waves, and the lipstick staining her gorgeous lips matched the color of her dress. There was no doubt about it—she was a total smokeshow.

Every guy she came within a ten-foot radius paused what they were doing to give her a very blatant once-over.

Unmistakably the hottest girl in the bar.

And as she saddled up next to me, unaware of my presence, it felt like the music stopped as she gently placed her clutch on the bar top. Casually, she leaned toward the bartender, her manicured nails drumming along the wood top as she sweetly asked for a gimlet with two lime wedges.

I was entranced.

I was hooked.

I was stolen for the rest of the night.

My mind wanted one thing.

Her.

She had my attention, and no one would steal me away.

No one would stop me.

Because in all honesty, I’ve had my eye on her for a while, ever since I met her two years before.

And that night . . . it was my chance. All excuses, all restrictions, they were tossed to the curb as I laid down the best tool at my disposal to get her to talk to me: it was my birthday.

And fuck, did we have a night. I can still remember the way her dress slid off her body as I held her in my arms. I can still vividly recollect that her lips tasted of lime and danger. And I can still smell her intoxicating perfume floating around me as I drove into her, one pulse after the other until we both came at the same time. Multiple times.

It was one of the best nights of my entire life.

But it had to end because we agreed it would be a one-night thing. So that morning, she slipped away undetected, and we both went back to our daily routine. Eat, sleep, and breathe hockey.

Was it the best birthday present I could ask for?

Absolutely.

Did she fulfill my every goddamn fantasy?

More than I could ever have imagined.

And if she came up to me and asked for more, would I oblige?

I would be hard pressed to say no.

Unfortunately, this isn’t a fairy-tale story of how my one-night stand turned into a romance for the ages, though.

Nope, that would be far too easy. This story, well . . . it exposes me as the man that I am. The man I feel to my very core. This is the story of how I wear the title “Ultimate Fuckup,” because not only did I accidentally get the girl in the hot pink dress pregnant . . .

But I broke bro code.

Because the girl in the hot pink dress is the sister of my teammate . . . and best friend.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4 ⭐️ Review: Rebecca Jenshak’s Tutoring the Player ✍🏻

Overall Grade: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Rebecca Jenshak’s Tutoring the Player is a sweet story about a young woman who is most comfortable on the perimeter of the party and a young man who is often the life of it. Jenshak’s newest story returns us to her eponymous Valley U and its hockey team. As the first book of her newest series, Campus Wallflowers, it has everything you love about Jenshak’s romances: an easy story, a female and male protagonist who engage you, and a romance with very little angst. In this story, Daisy is a shy physics/art major who watches life from her treehouse overlooking Jenshak’s iconic White House. She pines for Liam, a Valley U hockey player, from afar, thinking they are fated. However, she will never act upon it due to her shyness. When she finds herself in a physics class with Liam and his teammate, Jordan, there’s an opportunity to finally talk with him. Since her lab partner dropped the class, she requires a lab partner. Due to the classroom seating, her professor asks her to join Liam and Jordan for the semester. Little by little, Daisy becomes more comfortable with both of them, but as time progresses, she finds herself drawn to Jordan, her seeming opposite. Over time, Jordan is captivated by Daisy. When he realizes her crush on Liam, he decides to discourage it, but he creates a situation where he can get closer to her. He tells her he requires her tutoring, and their love connection begins. As they begin to fall for each other, Jordan must confront why he eschewed relationships, and Daisy must stay unattached because Jordan is known to be a player. Is this a love match? Or are they a momentary dalliance?

Much of Tutoring the Player illustrates the reasons to read Rebecca Jenshak’s romances. She has crafted a universe of college students from different places on campus, which entice you into her romances. Daisy and Jordan seem like real people, causing you to connect with their stories. The relatability that Jenshak infuses in her characterizations of Daisy and Jordan holds you fast. I found myself in pieces of Daisy, that feeling of never feeling comfortable in the whirlwind of attention. If I can imagine myself as Daisy, then I can see myself through the course of her story. As she grows, I grow. And there is a realism in the characters of her expanded universe, even if they are professional basketball or hockey players. Their challenges are our challenges.

In her characterization of Jordan, we’re confronted with the truth of death. Frequently, it causes us to create protections that distance ourselves from meaningful relationships. We lower our expectations in life because we can’t guarantee that one’s life won’t be gone in mere seconds. Jordan’s player status results from the loss of his best friend, and Liam, his roommate and “new” best friend, forces him to encounter his truth later in the story.

The power of Tutoring the Player is its expanded character list. Jenshak has the promise of more great future stories in this new series since Daisy’s roommates require their own happily ever afters. There is also the suggestion of returning to the White House and its basketball players, along with other options throughout Jenshak’s Valley U campus.

If there is any limitation to Jenshak’s romances, it’s the low angst of her stories. I know that’s her signature, but, as you read her romances, the inciting incident for creating the tension between her female and male protagonists oftentimes feels too dramatized or manufactured. If you’re writing main characters who seem realistic, their problems should feel more real, if that makes any sense. That being said, I enjoyed every page of Rebecca Jenshak’s Tutoring the Player. She is a solid 4-star romance writer for me, and I find aspects of myself in her characters…even as a middle-aged woman far past her college years. That, to me, is a win for her and her future romances.

In love and romance,

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4 ⭐️ Review: K. Webster’s Death Wish ✍🏻

Overall Grade: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Trigger Warning: SA is spoken of and attempted

K. Webster’s Death Wish provides the best ending to her duet that began with Triple Threat. As I explained in that review, I love when an author takes the former villains of a story and humanizes them for purposes of a different story. In Death Wish, the triplets of her popular Cinderella Trilogy have become the heroes, working to save Landry, the story’s female protagonist. At the end of the first book, Landry finds herself in the hands of the triplets after escaping her father’s abuse. Her entire focus is on protecting her younger sister, Della. And for a short time in Death Wish, they are safe, and the triplets, Scout, Sully, and Sparrow, have claimed her. However, when her father finds her, they must work to rescue her again from his clutches. Death Wish is erotic and entertaining. K. Webster isn’t trying to make something complicated of her romance here. It’s dark and smutty, Webster’s signature all over it. There is a happy ending here; however, Landry must fight evil to get there, finding herself forever in the hands of the Terrible Threesome. Interestingly enough, it’s exactly where she wants to be. K. Webster’s Death Wish is a quick read meant to titillate and steam your glasses. If that’s your jam, you’ll want to read this duet.
