✍🏻 Who’s ready for a story from Penny Reid? Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend is LIVE…and ready for your laughs. ✍🏻

Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend, an all-new enemies to lovers romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Penny Reid, is now live!

Winnifred Gobaldi and Byron Visser are not best friends.

Yes, they’ve known each other for years, but they’re not even friendly. Winnie considers them more like casual, distant acquaintances who find each other barely tolerable, especially when he’s being condescending (which is all the time).

The truth is, they have nothing in common. She’s a public school science teacher with stars in her eyes, and he’s a pretentious, joyless double PhD turned world-famous bestselling fiction author. She loves sharing her passion for promulgating women in STEM careers and building community via social media, and he eschews all socialization, virtual or otherwise. She’s looking for a side hustle to help pay down a mountain of student debt, and his financial portfolio is the stuff of fiduciary wet dreams. So why are they faking a #bestfriend relationship for millions of online spectators?

When a simple case of tit-for-tat trends between nonfriends leads to a wholly unexpected kind of pretend, nothing is simple. Sometimes, it takes a public audience to reveal the truth of private feelings, and rarely—very rarely—you should believe what you see online.

Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend is a full-length, complete standalone, adult contemporary romantic comedy.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4.5 ⭐️ Review: Adriana Locke’s Flirt, book 1 of her Carmichael Family series ✍🏻

Overall Grade: 4.5 ⭐️

Adriana Locke’s superpower is writing compelling, swoon-worthy heroes who feel like your brother or nephew or uncle. Her brand of hero (or MMC, for those of you who use that acronym) is an everyman type. They are flawed, albeit gorgeous. But even then, I often think they aren’t billionaire or dark romance handsome. They are the handsome kind of guys you’d see walking down the street, approachable and possible for every woman. There is a realness to Locke’s stories, and her newest offering, Flirt, showcases Moss Carmichael in such a way that you can’t help but be envious of her FMC, Brooke. Don’t get wrong. Brooke is the type of heroine one should envy; she’s intelligent, talented with design, hardworking, and beautiful. Almost all of the Carmichael brothers (yes…these are the newest addition to Locke’s repertoire of stories) would love a chance with Brooke, but Moss catches her eye…and heart. Except that Moss and Brooke are working partners and not interested in relationships, so they’re friends, although there is something more to that friendship that they like to deny. What I love most about these two is you can see their relationship coming from a mile away. They cannot simply help themselves. The prompting of “more” for these two is Brooke’s grandmother’s birthday. Unfortunately, unlike the Carmichael Bros, Brooke has a horrible family, save her grandmother. To survive the party, she needs a fake boyfriend. Through the machinations of his family, Moss becomes that fake boyfriend and those feelings that Brooke and Moss have avoided? Yeah, they come to the surface and can’t be denied.

But that’s the fun of Flirt. Moss and Brooke fall fast, and it seems like their HEA is in sight except both Moss and Brooke have emotional baggage they must unload. And like her other romances, Locke illustrates real-world problems through the specter of her main characters. Brooke has to learn to let go of her “ducks,” and Moss has to accept love. Through these characters, we are gifted with people who have learned healthy boundaries yet need a nudge to accept a happy ending. For me, the most emotional moment in the story is Damaris’s (Moss’s mom) unconditional love and affection towards Brooke. Locke stole a little piece of my heart at that moment.

Moss and Brooke’s chemistry, their core friendship, is Flirt’s appeal. Adriana Locke has crafted a new story in a new series that promises you several hours of laughing, crying, and losing yourself in the simple love of two complex characters. I adored every moment of this new book with the potential for several more in this series.

In love and romance,

✍🏻 Who’s ready for Ty Winslow? Nah…I don’t think you’re ready for this “hot as sin” professor. Max Monroe’s The Secret is LIVE! ✍🏻

Mr. Hot Professor, the man I’m determined to resist, is challenging me to a competition—a playful, secret game, so to speak—where the winner takes all.

The Secret, an all-new hot as sin romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Max Monroe, is available now!

Dear Fellow Bookworms,

I need your help.

I, Rachel Rose, am in quite the pickle with a hot-as-sin English Lit professor by the name of Ty Winslow, and I don’t know how to get out of it.

Let me break it down for you:

Girl meets Guy.

Girl gives Guy her underwear on a dare but nothing else identifying (like her name or number) because she plans to never see Guy again.

But Girl does see Guy again, in a very professional setting, where she is to be the Teaching Assistant to his Professor for an entire semester.

Girl would like to ignore all events of the past, but Guy is a whole list of tempting things that are hard to resist. (See below:)

#1: Insanely attractive.
#2: The most fun a girl could ever have.
#3: Successful and intelligent.
#4: He can quote Walt Whitman at the drop of a hat—which I’m sure you know is a dangerous thing for a literature-lover.
#5: Smooth with a capital S. He could charm the panties off a woman WITHOUT the help of a dare.

And now, Mr. Hot Professor, the man I’m determined to resist, is challenging me to a competition—a playful, secret game, so to speak—where the winner takes all.

My plan? Play the game long enough to win—long enough to walk away with the upper hand—without doing something stupid like falling in love.

It’s possible . . . right?

If you have any advice, please reach out to me soon—before it’s too late.

XOXO,
Rachel

✍🏻 Catherine Cowles’s Falling Embers is coming next week, April 12th. Would you love a sneak peek of this emotional small-town romance from one of my fav authors? ✍🏻

“Emotional, angsty, so romantic, and edge of your seat suspenseful! ALL THE STARS!!”
—Samantha Young, New York Times bestselling author

Falling Embers, an all-new emotional small-town romance from bestselling author Catherine Cowles, is coming April 12th, and we have the first look!

Prologue
Hadley

PAST

“Hads, you know there’s no way she’s going to let you go.”

I leaned back against my bed and cradled the phone against my ear. “I think I can convince her.”

Jenna was silent for a moment before speaking. “I know you’ve got megapowers of persuasion, but your mom is on another level.”

I didn’t need my best friend to tell me that. I lived with my mother’s overprotectiveness every day. No, overprotective wasn’t the right word. It was paranoia.

“I’m going to go talk to her now. I’ll call you back when I’m done.”

“Okay.” Doubt dripped from Jenna’s tone. She’d watched me go down this road too many times before.

But I wouldn’t let her doubt get to me. I was holding on to hope. I pushed to standing and started for the door. I paused as I pulled it open, listening. I could hear voices wafting up from downstairs and moved in that direction.

“It sounds like a herd of elephants is invading,” my dad called as I pounded down the stairs.

“Just one daughter,” I told him, rounding the corner.

He had a baseball game on mute as my mom worked on hand-stitching a quilt.

“Where’s Shiloh?” I asked.

Mom’s jaw tightened, and I knew I’d already made a misstep. I shouldn’t have asked. My dad gave me a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. The kind I’d seen far too many times during the past eight years. “She needed some air, I think. She’s in the barn with the horses.”

My sister practically lived out there these days. And every time she ran off, a muscle in my mom’s cheek fluttered, or her knuckles bleached white—as they were now.

I didn’t know what to say. Not when we were already starting here. Instead, I shuffled from foot to foot, rethinking my approach.

Dad patted the couch cushion next to him. “Take a seat and tell us what you’re working through in that big brain of yours.”

His words had my mom lifting her gaze from her stitching and eyeing me carefully. I swallowed as I sat, my throat seeming to catch on the movement. I tucked a leg under me. “I wanted to ask you something.”

“Go ahead,” Dad said.

I toyed with a loose thread on the couch cushion. “Jenna is going to a party at Toby Jacob’s house tonight. I know you’re not crazy about parties, but I really want to go. I promise I won’t drink anything but sealed bottled water. You can breathalyze me if you want. And I’ll text you every thirty minutes, so you know I’m okay. I’ll stay with Jenna the whole time.”

Mom’s knuckles lost even more color. “Hadley—”

“Are his parents going to be home?” Dad cut her off.

“Um, no. But they know he’s having the party. They’re in Portland this weekend.”

My mom tossed her stitching onto the coffee table. “I can’t believe the Jacobs would be that irresponsible. Letting a bunch of kids run wild in their home while they’re away. Drinking. Probably drugs. Anything could happen.”

“Now, Julia,” my father began, but Mom cut him off with a glare.

“Anything, Gabe. Absolutely anything could happen.”

“But not to me. I’ll be so careful. I promise.”

Mom’s gaze shot to me. “You might be careful, but you could still get hurt because of someone else’s reckless decision. I won’t risk it.”

“Please, Mom,” I whispered. “Everyone in my class will be there. I don’t want to be the freak anymore.”

She stiffened. “You are not a freak simply because your parents want to make sure you’re safe.”

But I was. Everyone whispered. The girl whose sister had been kidnapped. The girl whose parents practically kept her locked in a bubble. The girl who never got invited to anything anymore because people had given up. Jenna was my only friend, but I could feel even that relationship waning. It was too hard for her.

I looked at both my parents. “I only have one friend because no one wants to put up with the insanity it takes. I have no life. It’s pathetic.”

“Hadley,” Dad warned. “You’re not pathetic. And you have a wonderful life. You ride horses, we go to the lake, go on hikes. That would be a pretty good life to some people.”

“But what about the life I want? To go to a party. God, maybe even on a date. To ride the bus to away games like everyone else. But, no. All of those things are too dangerous.”

“Stop it.” My mom’s voice lashed out like a whip. “How can you be so selfish? You know what we went through with your sister.”

“Newsflash, Shiloh’s fine. It’s awful what happened to her, but it was eight years ago. Please don’t steal my life because of it.”

“Go to your room, right now,” my mother barked.

I turned on my heel and ran. But not upstairs. I went out the front door. The house walls felt too claustrophobic, my parents bearing down, everything closing in around me. I tried to suck in air as the door slammed behind me. But I couldn’t seem to get my lungs to obey.

I started towards the paddocks as tears streamed down my cheeks, and I willed my lungs to cooperate. As I rounded the corner of the barn, I collided with a solid form.

Hands encircled my arms to steady me. “Shit, Hads. Sorry, I didn’t see you.”

I tried to get out my own apology, but no words came. The fact that I was struggling to find my voice only made it harder to breathe.

“Hads? What’s wrong?” There was a slight panic to Calder’s voice. “Want me to get your mom and dad? Hayes?”

I shook my head quickly, but the movement was jerky. I didn’t want my older brother, and I certainly didn’t want my parents. WANT MORE? Click here for the full sneak peek. >>> https://bit.ly/3J9UwMw

Synopsis

I’ve loved Calder Cruz from the moment he taught me how to fly. Racing down a mountain and giving me the release I so desperately needed. My understanding. My safe space.

Hadley has fought for a life of her own ever since her sister’s kidnapping. When she was drowning in expectations and family pressures, Calder was always the one who understood her.

Until one night changed it all. From best friends to strangers in a single breath.

She’s like a fire that lives inside me. Even when I thought it was all burned out, there were still embers that lived in my bones.

Calder knows what it’s like to almost lose the people he loves most. He’ll never make that kind of mistake again. Working at the fire station and taking care of his daughters are the only things he needs.

All it takes is a single moment to make him realize how wrong he is. A split second of coming close to losing the woman he has always loved.

But as long-buried embers light anew, there are those who lurk in the shadows. And they’ll do whatever it takes to extinguish that flame for good…

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4.5 ⭐️ Review: Juliette Cross’s Parks and Provocation, a SmartyPants Romance story ✍🏻

Overall Grade: 4.5 ⭐️

While reading Juliette Cross’s contribution to the SmartyPants Romance world, Parks and Provocation, I’ve come to some conclusions about myself as a romance reader. Here goes…

  1. I am definitely more intrigued with a story that is a slow-burn romance than an insta-love one. It’s like edging…it keeps you wanting more the longer their attraction and chemistry grow. This is the beauty of Parks and Provocation. While her MMC, Jedediah “Jed,” and her FMC, Lola “Cola,” have known each other since their school days, she allows their story to “breathe” for her readers. It effectively builds their chemistry to a crescendo where it falls beautifully at the right moments. You find yourself savoring their courtship, waiting for the perfect moment when they finally acknowledge their love for each other.
  2. I love an MMC who adores his FMC from the story’s beginning. This is Jed. There is no question about his feelings for Lola, and following his pining for her makes him swoon-worthy. There are other reasons for loving Jed: he’s gorgeous, built, and cares for his family, i.e., his father, sisters, niece/nephew, and friends’ children deeply. He is the total package, and as you read Parks and Provocation, you wish you were Lola.
  3. For an FMC to behave badly, I love a best friend who provokes that type of behavior. Without Lola’s friend and fellow podcaster, Marly, Lola would be a stick in the mud-type of character. Marly is the wicked best friend who uses her friendship mojo to help her recognize her attraction to Jed. She is the sparkle to Lola’s staidness, and she also asks as her wise advisor.
  4. It would be easy to say that Lola is the problem in Parks and Provocation, but that reduces her. Instead, Cross’s characterization of her illustrates her message: that living life to the fullest and outside of your pre-planned list is the best life. Jed acts as the foil to Lola’s plans, and it causes the heart wrench of this story. But it’s also an admonishment to Cross’s readers that plans are good as boundaries, not cement blockades.

Juliette Cross’s Parks and Provocation is a perfect entry back into the SmartyPants Romance world. There are nods to characters in Penny Reid’s world, but this book gifts us one of the best cinnamon roll heroes in this world: Jedediah. I dare you not to fall in love with him. You’ll find it isn’t an easy task for this enemies-to-lovers, second chance, small-town romance.

In love and romance,

Professor A
