I have to admit that this is my first K Webster book to review. I’ve read several of them, and they are so forbidden and delicious to read. I’ve barely cracked her book list, and I’m excited for future reading.

This is also my first time reading anything by this duo, and they have quite a few books that I’d love to spend some time with. My Kindle Library is already full, but, after reading, Share Me, this reader is definitely intrigued.

In terms of erotica, reverse harem stories intrigue me. The first one I ever read (of which I don’t remember the name) was simply one woman and five guys having a lot of fun in the bedroom. However, the story was non-existent, and I was disappointed by it. It took me some time to read another one because I worried that a reverse harem book relates more to bedroom-type activities than actually developing a story. Therefore, I’ve become choosey when it comes to this genre of romance.

After reading the blurb for Share Me, I was “all in.” And this book didn’t disappoint because it really was more than the $ex. Yes, it plays a large part in the book. How could it not when you put one woman with four men? Yet, Ker Dukey and Webster create a bit of a slow burn for the men. Since the men have been tasked with protecting Clove, starting when she was seventeen, there is a bit of a forbidden element to the story. While their relationship isn’t consummated until she is well into her twenties, that forbidden tinges the relationship until they finally act upon it. However, that action takes a bit of time in the story, allowing us to learn more about Sebastian, Leo, Ford, and Zac. It is clear that all of them have been pining for each other for some time. Keeping the reader at bay adds delicious tension to the story.

Even more, this story is more than just a reverse harem story. Clove struggles to find her place after growing up with a workhorse, emotionally-distant father. It is the men who have provided her with the emotional security, but acknowledging an attraction to four men is difficult. This book deals with ideas about female sexuality and behaviors. It also provides a story of mystery, as Sebastian, Leo, Ford, and Zac must try to figure who is trying to hurt Clove.

Given all of these elements, this story is more than your typical reverse harem. And this reader LOVES that. I obviously want to read the genre, as it intrigues me. It’s sexy and usually incredibly hot. However, the stories typically fail to add any depth to the characters. This time, however, Ker Dukey and K. Webster have given us more, and, in the end, it’s a book you simply can’t put down once you start.

Will these NewlyFEDS be able to catch the bad guys, or get caught under cover first?

Review:

Logan Chance quickly won me over with his books, Taken, Playboy, Stuck, etc. I was initially drawn to him because I wanted to read a male romance author, and he did not disappoint with his flair for humor, sexiness, and character chemistry.

He does it again with The NewlyFEDS. Addison and Vin are an unlikely pair. For Vin, Addison isn’t necessarily on “his radar” because she blends in. She prefers to avoid attention as life is work. For Addison, Vin is the typical playboy heartbreaker. When she considers him, “eyeroll” would be her go-to motion. When they are paired up to work undercover as newlyweds, the sparks fly. Suddenly, Vin sees Addison, and Addison struggles with her innate attraction Vin. Their fight against the intense attraction is one of the highlights of this book. Watching them fighting their feelings for each other makes for good reading.

“When his hands are on me, when he stares at me the way he does sometimes, it’s hard to think. It’s hard to remember why I’m here in the first place. And honestly, I know of wish it was all true.”

Even more, there are two underlying stories to the enemies-to-lovers, fake marriage tropes. Addison’s background is tragic. She’s lived her life in foster homes, and she missed out on relationships. When she and Vin go undercover, she finds something she never expected: friends. Her growth through the book lends a level of emotion that might not be noticed at first glance.

“And now…I can’t stop focusing on him. He’s all I see, actually.”

Secondly, this movie has a certain level of suspense. It isn’t simply a romance; it has a mystery to solve. If you love police procedural/investigative type stories, then The NewlyFEDS will whet that appetite. It isn’t difficult to solve per se, but it will keep you guessing until the end.

This story has so many great elements: a hero/heroine that you’ll like, an engaging “who-done-it”, some serious chemistry, and the edges of angst. Thankfully, Logan Chance doesn’t keep us suspended in angst-ville. Instead, he gives our couple the future they deserve. And the ending the reader deserves.

“Please face each other,” the officiant said, and I followed his instructions like a robot. Feeling numb, I let Jack reach for my other hand, and when his fingers gave mine a tiny squeeze, this time I met his questioning eyes. I swallowed, tried to ignore the little jump my heart gave and offered him a small smile. He was truly striking in a cold, calculating sort of way. I’d be lying if I said my heart hadn’t given a small jump the first time I’d laid eyes on him. Completely involuntarily. He had the strong-and-silent thing down pat. I didn’t know if Jack Hawthorne ever smiled. So far—the three whole times I’d seen him—I hadn’t been a witness to it, at least not a genuine smile, but I would have assumed if he was marrying someone he was in love with instead of me, there would at least be a small playful grin on his lips. He didn’t look like the grinning type, but surely there would be a hint of it. Unfortunately, neither one of us was the picture of a happy newlywed couple.

I reached for his hand to put on his wedding band, but call it nerves, clumsiness, or a sign, if you will—before I could even touch his hand, the cheap, thin ring slipped from my shaky fingers and I watched it fly away from me in slow motion. After the surprisingly loud clinking sound it made when it hit the floor, I ran after it, apologizing to no one in particular, and had to drop to my knees so I could save it before it rolled under the ugly orange couch. Although the light blue dress I had chosen to wear was by no means short, I still had to put one of my hands on my butt to cover myself so I wouldn’t flash everyone as I caught the damn thing before I had to crawl on my knees.

“I got it! I got it!” I yelled a little too enthusiastically over my shoulder, holding the ring up as if I had won a trophy. When I saw the unimpressed expressions around me, I felt my cheeks turn a bright shade of red. I dropped my arm, closed my eyes, and released a very long sigh. When I turned around on my knees, I noticed that my ringless, almost husband had made it to my side, already offering his hand to pull me up. After I got back on my feet with his help, I dusted off my dress. Looking up to his face, I belatedly noticed how stiffly he was holding himself—jaw clenched, the muscle tick definitely back.

Had I done something wrong?

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, thoroughly embarrassed, and got a curt nod in response.

The officiant cleared his throat and gave us a small smile. “Shall we continue?”

Before he could drag me back, I discreetly leaned toward my soon-to-be-maybe husband and whispered, “Look, I’m not sure about…you look…” I paused and released another long breath before gathering enough courage to look straight into his eyes. “We don’t have to do this if you’ve changed your mind. Are you sure? And I mean really, really sure you want to go through with this?”

His eyes searched mine as we ignored the other people in the room, and my heart rate picked up as I waited for his answer. As much as I was reluctant to do this, if he’d changed his mind, I’d be screwed six ways to Sunday and we both knew that.

“Let’s get this over with,” he said eventually.

That was all I got.
