MANHATTAN
Now Live and in Kindle Unlimited!

Everyone knows not to fall in love with your best friend.

But when your best friend is Michael Becker, it’s impossible not to.

He’s everything our town knows a Becker brother to be: devastatingly handsome, charming as a thief, and the icing on the cake — a sentimental musician who’s never without his guitar.

And he was mine. At least, that’s what I’d convinced myself.

Our bond was born in elementary school, strengthened by circumstance and the promise to always be there for each other, no matter what. And the best thing about my life was being friends with Michael Becker.

Until it was the worst.

I watched him fall in love with someone else, and helped patch him back up when she left him behind. But when he drops the bomb that he’s moving to New York, I realize it’s my last chance to tell him how I feel. And I ask him to make one more promise.

One summer. One list of adventures to remind him that our small town has more to offer than memories of the girl who left him behind.

One last chance to tell him I’m in love with him.

And I’m just dumb enough to believe that maybe he could love me, too.

We’ve all been there, some more than others, you know what I’m talking about, where you have the hots for the new business teacher.

I was one hundred percent that guy. I shamelessly flirted with her my senior year, only earning her irritation more and more. On graduation, I stood up to her husband after he got violent, and I’ll never forget the look in her eyes when she told me it wasn’t my place.

Fast forward to my senior year of college and what do you know, the new adjunct professor is the one and only Mrs. Robinson, she’s eight years older than me and smoking hot. Did I mention divorced?

She looks at me like I’m trouble, and I’m only happy to deliver on that promise. I’m going to show her how a real man treats a woman and use every weapon in my Pleasure Pony arsenal to do it.

Go big or go home.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4 ⭐️ Review: Tia Louise’s Wait for Me ✍🏻

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“He’s my first love. He’s my first real kiss. He’s my first everything…”

There is always something compelling about books where the brother’s best friend falls for the friend’s younger sister. That forbidden twist makes the reading of the story more compelling. Will they be found out? Will the brother break his friendship to protect his sister? Will the hero and heroine end up together, or will the brother stand in the way of their eventual happiness? These questions swirl through your mind, and you find your heart pounding violently in your chest, hoping all will turn out for the best. In Tia Louise’s Wait for Me, the tension isn’t built between the brother and his best friend. The twist comes from within the soul of the hero, and it upends the future for our hero, Taron, and the heroine, Noel.

From the outset, this couple is sweet, incredibly adorable. Taron is on leave with his friend, Sawyer, helping Sawyer endure the harvest of his family’s peach orchard. Noel literally falls into Taron’s arms, and they fall figuratively for each other. Unfortunately, Taron and Sawyer’s time in the orchard is limited: they are due to be stationed in South America for almost two years. However, Taron and Noel’s pull is too great, and they fall in love. Taron doesn’t want to ask Noel to wait for him, but they love each other so much that they simply can’t let go of their relationship.

Taron and Sawyer begin their active duty, and all seems well between Taron and Noel. However, all good things must be disrupted, and a dangerous situation arises that keeps Taron and Sawyer military silent from Noel. During that time, a trauma occurs that causes an emotional distance between Taron and Noel. Seeking to care for Taron, Noel goes after him, only to be pushed away. This devastates her, and her life seems over until a surprise saves her. Many years later, Taron recognizes the error of his ways, and he returns to the orchard where he lived the best time of his life. Will Noel take him back? Will they find their happy ending that seemed lost years earlier?

When Taron and Noel are ‘right” with each other, the story is very right. Tia Louise has written a beautiful story of soulmates complicated by life choices. There is no initial strain between Taron and Noel. They hide their love from her older brother for just a short bit of time, and Sawyer never involves himself in their relationship until he needs to save it. Quite honestly, he is some of the impetus for Taron returning to the orchard. Thus, Wait for Me isn’t really a best friend’s little sister story. Instead, this romance holds messages about substance abuse and PTSD. It’s these elements that interfere with Taron and Noel’s story. These are what keep them apart.

Everything about this romance made it easy to read and endure. The setting is idealistic, Taron and Noel as characters are beautiful together, and the ancillary characters add another layer of sugar.

The only part of this story that seemed underdeveloped was Taron’s fall into substance abuse. Louise really doesn’t give us much about it. We know his struggle, but it takes up very little space in the book. As the reader, I wanted to know more about their separation. On the one hand, Taron was dealing with an addiction; on the other hand, he was helping one of his good friends build a profitable business, and he becomes a millionaire. I would have liked more storytelling here. Now, I imagine Tia Louise would tell me that Taron’s life at this time doesn’t matter; that the story of their reconciliation is the sweet flesh of this peach of a story. Still, I think there could have been more development of story during their separation.

What I think Tia Louise does well is fully form this couple. She makes it easy on them to find their way back to each other. Yes, there is some angst in this book, but it isn’t overwhelming to read. It simply builds the requisite tension in the story to move the readers towards a happy ending. And the ending is like the rest of the book, sweet and delicious like the peaches harvested in the story.

Tia Louise’s Wait for Me is a reminder of the transcendent power of love and forgiveness. Even when life derails your initial plans, it offers second chances to rectify the situation. Taron and Noel’s story admonishes us that second chances are oftentimes better than our firsts. If you love a hero who adores his heroine, who readily worships at her feet with a secret baby thrown into the mix, then you definitely want to buy Tia Louise’s Wait for Me

“I’ve learned love is a tornado, destructive and fierce and powerful. It’s also a butterfly, soft, gentle, beautiful. But to get to the butterfly, you must go through the tornado. Love has to change you. You have to grow, and it’s difficult and life-altering and scary and lonely…but coming out on the other side, we’ve spread our wings.”

Dear Taron,
I should have told you this before…

Dear Taron,
Is there a time-limit on
forgiveness?
If there is, I haven’t reached it…
Dear Taron,
I still love you…
Taron Rhodes was my brother’s best friend.

He was sexy as sin.

But he was more than that…

He was ponytail-pulling, ice down your shirt teasing, throw you in the lake screaming…
Strong, tanned arms and bright green eyes over a heart-stopping, naughty grin…
Did I mention his tight end?
I gave him my first real kiss, my heart, my everything.
I said I’d wait for him…
I’m still waiting, because Taron Rhodes is still the man of my dreams,
And I have a secret that has his bright green eyes.
Noel LaGrange stole my heart when she was only eighteen—pushing me off a flatbed and calling me a city slicker.
Her brother Sawyer would kick my ass if he knew how many times we made out that summer, how close we got.
Everything changed when Sawyer and I joined the military.
We were honorably discharged, but I didn’t go to her.
Instead, I went back to the city… where no amount of money, no amount of pills can heal this wound.
Only her whiskey eyes and dark hair, her slim arms and her sweet scent, give me hope.
I broke her heart just as surely as I broke mine, but I’m going back to make it right.
If she’s still waiting…
(WAIT FOR ME is a STAND-ALONE small-town, second-chance romance with a guaranteed HEA. No cheating. No cliffhangers.)

Nothing But Wild, an all new standalone Contemporary Romance by P. Dangelico.

Dallas Van Zant.

Water polo god.

Shameless flirt.

Beautiful disaster in the most literal sense of that label.

Trust me, it’s not hyperbole. He’s in big trouble with the law.

What does this have to do with me, you ask? Unfortunately, a lot. For some reason, which I still can’t quite wrap my brain around, I’ve been talked into driving him around as part of his plea deal.

Problem is, he makes me nervous. I’m not good with people, men in particular, popular athletes especially. I’ve worked really hard to get my disability under control and one minute in his company and all my hard work flies out the window.

To top it all off, I promised myself that I was going to make some serious changes this year. I’m tired of feeling awkward around boys. I’m tired of never having had a boyfriend. I’m tired of being lonely. And he’s wrecking my plans.

But I’m also not the type to turn away a person in need. So I’ll do what I must to help him out.

I’ll just pretend that I’m not enjoying his company. And I’ll ignore the fact that he’s sweet and funny. And I’ll tell myself every day that he’s out of my league.

Because I’m as inexperienced as they come. And Dallas Van Zant is nothing but wild.

Excerpt:

Dora

“What d-do you t-think you’re doing?”

“Watching out for you.”

“Hardly, y-you’re trying to r-ruin my good time!” I shout over the music. Taking my arm, he tugs me away, off the dance floor, and leads me to the wall on the far side where it’s only slightly quieter.

Leaning a shoulder against the wall, he crosses his arms and the t-shirt he’s wearing pulls tight, showcasing the complex network of muscles and veins of his arms. Thirsty. I’m very thirsty all of a sudden.

Next, his blue gaze goes soft and sensual. If he thinks I’m going to capitulate that easily, he’s seriously delusional.

“I have a deal for you.”

Not what I was expecting but whatever. “I d-don’t n-need a deal.”

“You don’t know what the deal is. How could you know you don’t need it?”

“Because I d-don’t n-need or want anything from you.”

“Well that’s not very fair. You haven’t even heard my proposal yet. How do you know you don’t want something you don’t know?”

“You’re not going to l-leave me alone tonight, are you?”

“Not until you hear what I have to say.”

“Fine. G-G-Get on with it so I c-can get back to dancing.”

“Let me be your wingman.”

I’m speechless. For the first time in my life I am legit speechless. One minute of silence passes. Two minutes pass. “I d-don’t get it…”

“You’re giving me rides to the shelter.” He shrugs like all this makes perfect sense. “In return, I’ll be your wingman.”

“My wingman?” I repeat. I don’t know if I should laugh. I mean, he’s funny. This proposal is hilarious. The scary thing is, I think he’s serious.

“You still working on that list? How many do you have left?” I say nothing. I admit nothing. “Huh…” He studies my face. “I take it that means all of them.”

“I g-got a makeover, didn’t I? And the Ferris wheel. I got that one d-done––” I snipe defensively. Yeah, I’m losing this argument or whatever you call this, this negotiation.

Reaching out, he takes a piece of my hair and tugs. “You look beautiful,” he says without missing a beat. “I like the makeover.”

Wait…did he just throw it out there that he thinks I’m beautiful? And I’m supposed to roll with it like the plate tectonics of the planet haven’t just shifted? What kind of game is he playing?

“What kinda g-game are you playing?”

He looks momentarily confused. “No game.” He leans in for a closer look, eyes narrowed. “Are you drunk?”

“No!”

“Then I’ll repeat myself because you’re hard of hearing tonight. I wanna help you.”

“You w-want to h-help me with m-my list…are you drunk?”

“You wanna be bad, right? I know bad.” He proudly pats his chest. “I’m the king of bad. All I’m sayin’ is––that’s my department. Let me help you be bad.”

I giggle because, dear me, he is serious.

He leans in, his mouth inches from my ear, and murmurs, “Say yes, Dora. I know you want to.” The silky purr slides over my skin, pebbles my nipples, and makes me shiver. Then he looks into my eyes and smiles. And that look, that devil-may-care look, seals the deal.

What do I have to lose? Except possibly my heart. But I’ve already tried it the safe way and it hasn’t worked in my favor. That’s why I throw caution to the wind.

“Okay…you’re on.”

“Good.” He takes my wrist and leads me away again.

“W-Where are we going?”

“To dance.”

And irrepressible smile grows on my face. I. Am. In. Trouble.

About P. Dangelico:

Dangelico loves romance in all forms, cuddly creatures (four legged and two), really bloody sexy pulp, the NY Jets (although she’s reconsidering after this season), and to while away the day at the barn (apparently she does her best thinking shoveling horse crap). What she’s not enamored with is referring to herself in the third person and social media so don’t expect her to get on Twitter anytime soon. Oh, and although she was born in Italy, she’s been Jersey Strong since she turned six.

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 5+ ⭐️ Review: Parker S. Huntington’s Devious Lies ✍🏻

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+

This is a warning. I’m going to spew forth love and adoration for Parker S. Huntington and her newest book, Devious Lies. There is nothing unbiased here whatsoever because I fell. In. Deep. with this book. This is the first book I’ve read by Huntington, but, given the beauty of the storytelling, it will most definitely not be the last.

So why? What is it about Devious Lies that makes it a formidable and decisive read? Why do I pledge my undying love to it? In a word: smart. This book is my favorite type of storytelling. At the most basic level, it embodies the enemies-to-lovers trope which happens to be my romance of choice. I read all types of romantic tropes, and I’m a sucker for most of them. Yet, this trope particularly curls my toes and attaches to my soul in a way that other tropes can’t compare. With this trope comes a hero who is borderline sociopathic. They feel compelled to destroy the person who has wronged them, usually the heroine. It’s in these moments of destruction that the true pain of the hero is revealed, and as a reader, you can’t help but revel in those moments. For an emotional masochist like me, it’s these provocative, gut-wrenching moments where the magic of an enemies-to-lovers story exists. It’s a gut check to your stomach and your heart, and this is where you empathize with the heroine and fall deeply into the story. And this is entirely true with Huntington’s Devious Lies. From its start, Emery becomes your emotional barometer.

Devious Lies boasts more than one bully. And as every brilliant enemies-to-lovers story does, these bullies wreak havoc on the heroine. It’s here that you fall down the emotional rabbit hole. Every moment with Emery in this story is heavy, but we find her wrapped in a warrior veneer. She’s bullied by her mother, by her “uncle,” by a peer, and eventually by Nash, the “hero” of Devious Lies. Then, later, she’s bullied by her boss, Charmaine. Yet, in the face of these people who judge her and seek to exact emotional torture on her, she stands in her truth. She’s powerful; she knows her mind and her spirit. There is both a simplicity and a complexity to her, and it’s why I fell for her. She’s quirky and spirited and beautiful. She stands for justice and willingly self-sacrifices to right the wrongs of the story even when it feels futile. Huntington personifies her as a goddess, and it is truth. She is probably one of my favorite heroines to date because she makes no excuses for herself, and she willingly embraces the underdog to fight for justice.

With a heroine this powerful, it was imperative that Huntington carve out a worthy adversary. She completes this with such purpose that Nash, even in his moments of pure bullishness, feels as necessary to the story as Emery. Nash is a contradiction, a complexity. On the one hand, Nash and Emery are the same. Huntington illustrates it best when she places these words in Nash’s mind: “She [Emery] reminded me of an active minefield. Volatile. Dangerous. A liability to herself. Because when a mine exploded, it’d take her down with it.” While he’s using these to describe the volatility of Emery’s persona, this is also him. He is all of these, at least to Emery. Yet, while they are so similar in their approach to love and each other, he is more dangerous than Emery because he doesn’t read situations or people well. He misreads Emery and her father through much of the story. He’s an illiterate due to his own filter in his reading of her. He’s a narcissist before he is anything else. This makes him dangerous to her, and Huntington carefully formulates him to become like her father, the very being he detests. This is ingenious because it shows his fallibility. Through his reticent pure attraction to her as his driving force, he becomes more literate and eventually reads her better than everyone (save for her father). It’s all of these contradictions engendered in this explosive hero that drives you deeper into Huntington’s story. It feels imperative to your soul that he recognizes his incongruities and rectifies the story. When this moment hits in the story, it’s the single most tender moment of Huntington’s romance, and it’s Nash’s undoing. The Nash after this moment is nothing compared to the Nash before it. In other words, Huntington generously offers us two Nashs for consumption, a gift to the reader.

“She believed in words, and magic, and storms. In fighting back, going down hard, never giving up. In blind loyalty, jumping first, dealing with consequences later. She was awful. She infuriated me. She drove me [f’ing] crazy.”

Beyond her characters, what endeared me to Parker S. Huntington’s romance is her style. As a professor of writing, prose and style cause me to “geek out” in the realm of writing. I have a handful of romance writers who I adore simply for their ability to put words on the page while imagining worlds for their readers. Huntington just stole a spot on that list. Because she was new to me, I didn’t realize the power of her storytelling. She pummels you moment after moment, drowning her readers deliciously in overwhelming feels. When you start to normalize, she crafts a wave of emotions to pull you into her story. It’s the best torment of feelings. Her language choices, her allusions to mythology, and her imagery throughout Devious Lies conspire to make you a prisoner to her story. Once I began this book, I couldn’t put it down, and it’s lengthy. She details Emery and Nash to make concrete for her reader the emotional journey towards their happy ending. It never feels staid or overproduced. Every detail and moment find purchase within their story. I simply didn’t want to rush this book, but I was compelled forward to the end as a respite from their struggles. And in the end, the reward is a magical epilogue that quenches your final thirst for Emery and Nash.

I think Parker S. Huntington says it best here: “Falling in love with you is like diving blindly into a book, not knowing it’s destined to be my favorite. Whatever’s more than love, I feel it for you. I am only ever going to be in love with you.” Devious Lies is one of those favorite books that you cannot know until you read it that it will become so. I simply didn’t know of the genius that is Parker S. Huntington until I read this tome. Now, I can’t unsee her specialness, and I hope as I continue to read that I am afforded the opportunity to drink in the nectar that she offers through her books.

In love and romance,

Professor A

✍🏻 Professor Romance’s 4 1/2 ⭐️ Review: P. Dangelico’s Nothing But Wild ✍🏻

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2

“‘It happens. Even the pretty ones get left behind sometimes.’”

To understand me as a reader and reviewer, there are certain truths about romance stories that you must understand:

  • I connect most with stories wherein the hero and/or heroine are fated BECAUSE they “see” the other person in ways that no one else does. This is my “catnip.”
  • I prefer stories that are driven by enemies-to-lovers or opposites attracting. The tension that drives those stories kicks me in the gut and sets my soul on fire.
  • Prose, style, and storytelling make me swoon more than a swoon-worthy hero or heroine. If goosebumps climb my skin over the prose, or the author of a romance crafts a meta-message on a topic bigger than the simplicity of the romance, I’m done…the perfect medium rare, with a tinge of the combination of emotional depth and intellectual breadth.

All of these truths conspire to enrapture me in the worlds of certain books. At their surface, they are romantic entertainment, but the real gem of them is the gravity of their story. P. Dangelico’s Nothing But Wild embodies these traits.

I read the first book in the Malibu University series, Nothing But Trouble. This is the book that drew me to Paola. In that review, I vomited my love for it because it utilizes an oft-ignored sport, water polo. Even more, the heroine of that book is special in her strength. In that book, we are introduced to the hero and heroine of Nothing But Wild, Dallas and Dora.  Dallas is seemingly the aloof, indifferent-to-life roommate and best of Reagan, the hero of that story, while Dora is a dorm mate with the heroine, Alice. Through that story’s progression, Dallas is both mysterious (we recognize that there is more to his story than we receive) and careless. He angers the water polo coach with his lack of work ethic and seriousness for training plus his penchant for putting himself in danger through risk-taking, while Dora is quiet and inept in her fashion/appearance. Her roommates badger her for her fashion choices and silence. Yet, in Nothing But Wild, we quickly realize there is a depth to these characters that drive this romance forward. At first glance, Dallas is still reckless. He’s living life without a care, and it’s destined to hurt him. In contrast, Dora lives a life of caution and comfort. Until she realizes she wants to change, inspired by her attraction to Dallas. As Dora and Dallas journey through the story, they challenge each other. With Dora, Dallas begins to find his self-worth, something underdeveloped due to his upbringing, and Dallas inspires Dora to take more chances in life. Their romance is a slow burn; it begins with a friendship intertwined with an undeniable attraction, and it ends with a soul-deep love. If you asked me to choose my favorite couple between Reagan and Alice and Dallas and Dora, D-squared would win the award. Here’s why:

Dallas is my favorite type of hero. On the outside, he’s gorgeous, the most handsome man in any room. He’s affable, albeit aloof and takes chances to the detriment of his physical health. His family is wealthy, and his life seems good, except that it isn’t. His attraction is a facade, a mask to the hurt that lives deep in his soul. Everyone around him including his best friends fails to “see” him. They believe in his mask. For me, its the complexity of his characterization that is the fruit of Dangelico’s story. He represents those of us whose pasts have left bruises that cause us to develop masks as a means to protect our hearts. For Dallas, commitment is unnatural because it wasn’t a cornerstone of his life. Since it’s unnatural, his reticence with any commitment to Dora becomes the underlying tension of this slow-burn romance. Consequently, this means that Dora is the impetus for his change, for the big realization of his life. As his journey develops, you cannot help but love Dallas because he simply needs a shot of unconditional love and someone to see through his facade. These are my favorite types of characters because they breed big beautiful moments of romance splendor. Make no mistake, Dallas’s characterization is my favorite part of this book. Dangelico uses him to illustrate the power of self-fulfilling prophecies and the influence of the past on the present.

In Dora, we find a warrior. It’s interesting because Dangelico hides her behind a quiet exterior. It’s easy to lose her among her roommates because she’s unassuming. Yet, she’s strong and resilient. If anything, Dora is safe. She’s been the perfect child, the perfect student, and the perfect volunteer. However, she’s curious about her past, and her warrior status is implemented when she begins making choices for herself. Her roommates, along with Dallas, encourage her to take challenges, which she does. It’s here where she becomes all-powerful, which allows her to truly recognize the essence of Dallas. I love that they complete each other, as this makes for the best type of romance.

I think the difficulty with Nothing But Wild lies in telling Dora and Dallas’s story in the midst of the Malibu University world. There were a few story moments that lost momentum, and there’s a scene with Blake, Dora’s roommate, that left me wondering after its resolution. I’m making a big assumption that it will find its revelation in a forthcoming book. However, in telling Dora and Dallas’s story, it seemed as though Dangelico felt compelled to acknowledge Reagan and Alice’s story. She clearly writes this book with her fans in mind. Plus she’s offering nods to the books to come. What happens is they interrupt the Dora and Dallas’s journey at times, and it slows their story down in my opinion. It’s already a slow burn romance between these two. I think Dangelico didn’t need to work to incorporate the other stories, either as a reminder to the first book or as preparation for upcoming stories. However, that is the only limitation of this book.

What Dangelico does well is craft these beautiful emotional moments into her story. Even if there are parts of the story that lose momentum in order to incorporate the other characters of the Malibu University universe, the power of these emotional parts carries the romance to an emotional depth that pulls at the reader’s heartstrings.

Additionally, Dangelico is diligent in magnifying relevant messages, seeking to modernize romance to fit our world: Dora’s parents as two dads, Dora’s realization of the ways in which women, in particular, envy the attributes of others instead of loving everything about themselves, the psychological impact of absentee parenting, and issues of mental health specific to bipolar disorder and self-medicating through alcohol. These heady topics entwine themselves through Dallas and Dora’s journey, creating moments of reflection for D’Angelico’s readers. This is modern-day romance, seeking to challenge our thinking while emotionally attaching us to its characters. P. Dangelico’s Nothing But Wild is a beautifully-wrought tale of boy meets girl and the power of love to heal all things that ail us.

“My parents taught me that the heart is a complicated organ. That in its imperfect beauty it is impetuous and blind, impractical and relentlessly forgiving. It wants who it wants without through to race and class and gender. And it keeps wanting regardless of how many times it’s been mistreated. I don’t question mine. I don’t fear it. I go willingly. I let mine lead me where it wants to go, and it keeps leading me right back to him.”

In love and romance,

About P.

Synopsis

He was my uncle’s friend, and I was too young for him.

But in the heat of the moment, against the wall in a darkened hallway of an illicit club, none of those things mattered. It was just one night of giving in to what we both wanted.

I never expected to see him two years later, sitting across me during a family dinner, encouraging me to intern at his business for my college project.

On day one we both agree that repeating that night would be a mistake. But it’s a mistake we can’t help but make again and again.

The rules are simple. We can’t tell my uncle. We have to be content with our hotel rendezvous. And we won’t fall in love.

But we both know we’re liars.

Excerpt

I carefully twisted the knob, closing my eyes and sending a quick wish that it wasn’t locked. When it fully turned, I bit my lip to hold back the smile trying to break free. I pushed the door open quickly and stepped in, shutting it softly behind me.

Kent’s eyes widened over his shoulder as he rinsed his hands at the sink.

Leaning my back against the door, I stared for a moment, taking in his lean body, his dark hair sprinkled with bits of gray. I noticed his beard was trimmed and sporting more gray than it had when I’d last seen him. If anything, it made him sexier.

“Hi,” I whispered. My intentions were innocent when I stepped through the door, but if he were to ask, I’d do whatever he wanted; right here with my parents only a room over.
